Rooms Released?

Quick question from a newbie. I have a reservation at POP for 11/29 – 12/4 and then I bought at AKL when I was at WDW for a conference a few weeks ago. I know trying to switch this reservation over will be nearly impossible; however, I am willing to try. Since I want to use my developer points, I can’t waitlist. I am more than willing to call every day; however, when I worked in the hotel business and a room was cancelled it went into inventory immediately; however, I’m not sure if that is how DVC works – anyone know?

I am assuming you mean you want to try to reserve at AKV (or alternatively another DVC resort). If you have already been given your member number, you can call member services and attempt to make that reservation with developer points; there is no need to do day by day because you are already within the 7 month reservation window for use of the developer points. If you do not yet have your member number, call your sales rep and tell them you want to try to make that reservation and the sales rep should then attempt to get it. The issue is whether there is still anything available for that time because that is a popular DVC time and rooms may already be full by DVC members who have already reserved. You don't actually try to switch the ressies, you just try to make the new one through DVC and if you get it, you then cancel the one at POP.

I guess I missed a point. There is nothing available; however, they suggested I call back daily (since I can't get on a waitlist) to see if anything becomes available. So my question was if there was a better time of day to call - if they release rooms after closing, I would think first thing in the morning would be best, but if they are put back into inventory at anytime, then it's basically a crap shoot.

Last December I was calling daily to see if any rooms had freed up for Marathon weekend in January...one of the CMs told me to call first thing in the morning, as inventory was updated overnight...

By the way, it mostly worked for us...we were looking to add 3 days to an existing reservation...got all 3, but only two on points; the third was for cash, but at OKW...
