Hi,
As some of you may know, I was accepted but my friend was pended. The time has come that I have to accept or decline. Me and my friend are really looking to room together if he gets accepted. What if the arrival date that I choose is no longer available when he accepts? Would we still be able to room together?

On a side note, I have another female friend who might be doing it. I understand we won't be able to room together but are there ways to make sure we are in the same building?

Generally, no. In order to ensure a smooth arrival experience for all, all Roommates moving into a new Apartment must move in on the same day.

After several weeks, you can petition Price Management (the Operating Participant which manages all Florida-Site College & International Program Housing) to relocate into another Apartment, space permitting.

Ugh, thats not good. Do a lot of arrival dates fill up? And can someone tell me how this picking a room mate thing works?

If the only reason you want to do the program is because your friend is doing it, then you're going to have a lot of problems even if he gets accepted and you end up in the same apartment.

If you really WANT to do the program, then accept and try to pick a date that you haven't heard everyone else announce that they'll be arriving on as it'll give you a chance if he gets accepted to room together.

The only way you two can room together is if you both arrive on the same day, AND have signed up in the system to be roommates together. (If you show up and ask to be placed together, they'll deny you.)

However, with your female friend, if you both arrive together, you can ask the housing coordinator to place you in or near the building she's in. (She will need to be there to confirm this.)

I think you need to start reading a liitle closer, he never said that the only reason he wanted to do the program was because his friend was, he was just wondering about them being roommates.

You also need to start checking the information you've been posting. Of course they can request to live together if they show up on the same day and are together in line. They've got a very good chance of getting that approved. You don't. Necessarily need to use the roommate matching service to room together.

I interpreted what might not have been expressed.

Based on past experiences I've met people who did the CP for reasons that had to do with a significant other or friend doing it. In the case with couples, and even friends, some broke-up on the CP and they had a miserable experience with Disney because of it. It's one of the reasons they used to deliberately not let people who knew one another before the program room together.

I requested to live with someone I met on LJ in line at housing and they refused my request based on the fact that I knew them before the program. If you don't say anything, and they're with you, they'll place you together. Now if they've changed this rule in the past 2 years, then I'm just giving out-dated information.

Um. Me and my friend are both doing it because we WANT to do it. Since we both want to do it, we would like to do it together, thats all there is to it. I'm sure there's various horror stories about couples breaking up and friends fighting but I've also heard stories of people who did it together who had awesome experiences. I'll take my chances. It's more likely that I won't get along with a stranger as a roommate than my best friend of 6 years...

Anyway, I wasn't aware that you could "sign up" to be with a specific room mate or anything about a room mate matching service. Could you elaborate?

Also, before I choose my date, it says that if you're planning on coming down with another CP participant, you should accept within minutes of each other so you can choose from the same dates. Are there any people out there who ever got accepted really late? What dates were available to you? I'm guessing Feb. 3 isn't a popular one.

Like I said, the desire to do it regardless will ensure a good program. I can almost assure you of that. (They'll go over some of the horror stories during your check-in day. :sad2:) As far as the stranger thing goes some of the people I enjoyed spending time with the most on my CP were people I'd never met before in my life, including Andrea, my roommate from Brazil who barely spoke English.

You'll need your application number, and your friends. You'll then need to login to the same system you used to accept your application. From there you'll just proceed to the roommate matching system, and type his number in. When he's accepted, he'll have to do the same, otherwise it won't go through.

If you're not able to do it before the deadline, but can get the same date, just stand in line next to one another and they'll stick you all in the same house--that's how I got my roommates. If there's anybody else you meet there, or online, that you want to room with, you can do roommate matching with them too, or the line thing.

The dates are standard across the board--or at least they were when I did the program--so everyone should have the same dates unless one gets filled. (I guess the reason for suggesting accepting at the same time.) Earlier dates will fill up because people want first dibs on housing. So, yes, Feb might be a better deal.

Thanks a lot!

So even if we both do this room mate matching thing, we still need to arrive on the same date?

Yes as they fill the entire apartment the day of, so if he arrives later there will be no where else for him to go.

If he gets a different date he can always request to be in the same complex/area as you.

Thank you thank you.

One more thing, sorry for bugging you. We both choose each other through the room mate request thing. When we go down, do we still need to stick together and request it again? And since my friend was pended, will the roommate request option still be available by December 1st?

Not a problem, I've been where you're at before, so I understand all the questions.

No. You'll probably be together for check-in anyways (it's a long process), but once you receive the email confirming him as your roommate, and vice versa, then it's sealed and done with. I'd print the email anyways just in case there's a mix up, but you'll both be down to room together. Now this might mean that you'll have less options when it comes to housing. (i.e. If you arrive and Patterson is the only place with 2 beds, then you get Patterson, no exceptions.) But you don't need to do the line trick.

The roommate request option does have a deadline. I don't know what it is for this year, so you're going to have to check out the form and see if there's a date listed. If not, you can email or call the CP recruiting office for that info. (Their email and phone number are on the CP site.)
