Darling fiance and I were looking at the Roomba Robot Vaccum and thought I would ask my fellow DIS'ers what they think of the roomba before we went out and bought one? Any experiences or good deals that you guys would know of on roombas? Any input would be great!!!

They make great kittie entertainers. :thumbsup2

Don't know anyone who has one and we have too many pets for that to help much.

I love mine! I call it The Beast. :lmao:The dog hates it, though.

We have hardwoods downstairs and carpet upstairs. It does a good job on both. I'm sure that my big upright would do a more thorough cleaning of the carpet, but this little Roomba scoops up the dog hair and carpet fuzz and keeps things looking neat.

The side brush stopped working on mine....I am a little aprehensive recommending them. But I will admit it did a great job while it lasted.

I like mine. I use it everyday. Not only does it get a good portion of the pet hair but it entertains the cats!

He is a little like a toddler - we call ours Robbie - as he does get into things. Robbie will try to suck up cords and socks and small toys. Then he will beep until you come and rescue him. pirate:

My DD named ours Doug. Yes, as in Doug from "Up". Ours has a spot cleaner and she said that when it finds spot that needs some extra attention, instead of "Squirrel!" it says, "Dirt!" :rotfl:

We like Doug. We set him off to do at least one room per day, sometimes 2 if he recharges quickly enough. He does a fairly good job, but I think I still need to run the big vacuum once a week.

The dog and cats love him. ;)

Do they avoid stairs? We have a stair case that descends from our living room.

We have 2 dogs ( and pretty soon we'll be adding one more) and so we need the pet hair picker upper the most (seeing as we're both asthmatic and sometimes the pet dander can irritate us a bit.) How long does the charge last on one of these little gadgets?

We love our roomba. Shaggy's charge lasts us about a room and a half. However, we have a ton of furniture that he has to work around. I bet that he could clean twice that space if we had less stuff. Of course, it's not all about battery charge. Depending on how long it's been since he's run about, how much junk is being tracked in, and what pets you own, you might need to clean out his dust bin pretty frequently. Rather than guessing, I just dump out the bin everytime he goes to his bed for a nap.

Yes, it avoids stairs. Also anything black, like our big rug for boots. We use ours sometimes, but it is a pain to clean all the dirt out of it. Sweeping on your own is sometimes faster.

Ours avoids the stairs, but my sister's roomba tried to commit stair-icide. He sustained serious, but not life-threatening injuries.:upsidedow

I thought we were the only ones that thought of ours as human! I like to let Robbie work while I Dis. Then I feel better about not working and just playing online! ;)

If he runs everyday he keeps the pet hair (2 cats and a large dog) pretty cleaned up. But I do have to empty his little cup and then send him off again. Lucky for me he is not prone to suicide attempts on the stairs!
