Room Views - does it really matter??

I wanted this upcoming trip to WDW to be extra relaxing so I purposely booked a savannah room at AKL just for the view and animal watching. :sunny: I want to spend a little more time at my resort and take things slower, so I didn't mind paying extra for the nice view because I'm going to be in my room a bit more than usual. I would only do this at a Deluxe though. Last trip was POFQ and I would never pay extra for a water view at any Moderate. Not worth it (imho).

We spend as much time in the resort and room as we do in the parks. After over 40 visits, we pretty much have it figured out what works best for us. We do enjoy "our" room at the GF with sweeping viwes of the castle. lagoon, pools, monorail and EPCOT. I don't know if any other room offers that kind of view. We also love staying at the Poly in the Tahiti Longhouse on the ground floor lagoon view...another beautiful place to stay!

We have never stayed at the Contemporary, but that viewfrom the 14th floor is AMAZING!

Looking back on our WDW trips, we do enjoy our room just as much as the parks and we do spend a lot of time, For us a room with a view is very improtant, not just in WDW, but everywhere we stay.

I must be the lone voice of dissent here re: AKL savannah view. We had a pool view booked and were given a complimetary upgrade to savannah. I realize now that for my next stay I will keep the pool view. The animals were ok, but at night it is just black with no activity, and that is when I like to sit on the balcony and take in the sights. That is why I LOVE the courtyard view at the WL.

I think if I were staying at a resort with no balcony, the view would not matter as much.

I usually don't pay extra for the "view" because we don't spend that much time looking out the window or if at a deluxe, sitting on the balcony. Too much of an itch to hit the parks or go for a swim, or tour the resort, or go shopping... :)

That's the view from cont 14th floor. I think it speaks for itself :goodvibes
What is that...the parking lot view?!?! ;)

I agree with most. If you're doing a value or mod, the outdoor hallways completely take away any hope of a decent view, and if you keep your draperies open, other guests glance in as they walk by, human nature, I guess. If you're staying at a deluxe, I would at least go Pool View. IMO, it's typically worth the extra money...especially if you like to sit out on the balcony and read the paper early morning, or get a little relaxation in private.

The more I go to WDW, the less the view matters to me. UNLESS I'm traveling with a Disney virgin :teeth:

The view is one thing, It isn't the only thing. I would never pay for a view in a moderate (with no private balcony.) At a deluxe, it just depends.. if I'm looking to cut corners to keep in a budget the view is going to be the first thing to go. But a view does make a difference. When we stayed at the BWV we had a great view of the Boardwalk, the Boardwalk Green and Cresent Lake, and we spent lots of time on that balcony even though the balcony was painfully small. When we stayed at the Poly we opted for Garden View. It wasn't of a parking lot of anything, but we immediately faced the staircase of another longhouse, it was generally dark and indistinguished as a view. If you craned your neck you could see a little beach but who wants to work this hard. Even though this balcony was spacious and comfortable, I spent a lot less time there.

I would actually consider the standard view at AKL, or the pool view... I think those rooms , especially when they are discounted, are probably one of Disney's greatest bargains.

There's no way I would shell out extra bucks for a moderate. We stayed at POFQ once and were "upgraded" to waterview. You have to go outside on the public walkways to even really see the view. There is no balcony, so while I was grateful for the upgraded, I know I would never pay extra for it.

I will pay extra for the view at some deluxes like AKL and BWI. Otherwise, it's standard/garden view for us.

We are paying for a woods view at the WL. No one going gives one hoot about the view. We have smokers in the family and the only smoking rooms are located woods view. I am not going to run the chance of us being confined indoors with a hurricane upon us and the smokers not able to go outside. I can see it now, stress of a hurricane, stress of loosing time in the parks added to not being able to do their favored stress reliever. We would be known as "that" family. So for the sake of our magic and everyone else it is woods view for us.

We most definately pay to upgrade for a water view. We do not spend much time in our room, but going to bed overlooking the lights of the bardwalk or the castle, and seeing the mist over the lagoon early morning is very cool. and worth it to me. I love falling asleep to the castle changing colors.

The only places I could see maybe paying for a better view would be WL for a Courtyard and the Contemporary for an MK tower room. Since I don't like the WL, there is no need to worry on that one.

Okay, so we just did it - we upgraded from standard to woods/lodge/whatever they call it at WL for our upcoming trip. It's worth it for us for the peace of mind in knowing that we won't be staring at the employee smoking area or something. I felt like we were playing russian roulette with our room, planning on upgrading when we arrive if we had a lousy view. Now we know we can expect a good view. We still think we can upgrade to courtyard view later if we feel the need :earsboy:

If you spend a LOT of time in your room I can see what it would matter. Me and hubby just use our room for sleeping and showering so we don't care at all about views.

jugglinfish...ya did the right thing! You very well may get a complimentary upgrade to courtyard. Although this is a busy time of year, so you can't count on those comp upgrades. That is why it is smart to have booked a woods view room...because it is busy you very well may get stuck with whatever you booked. Have fun at my favorite resort!

I think you'll like the woods view. The one time we stayed at WL, that's the view we had. It was very peaceful and quite lovely.

I'd say it matters...When I can sit on my bed or my balcony with a glass of wine at the end of a day and see this...

Thanks for the pics Denman007. I was starting to rethink my reservation at Polynesian Lagoon View.
