Room upgrade/request

We are staying at the WL Jan 12-21.

I currenly have a standard room and am waiting for codes/AAA rates but you never know.

Is it better to check in early (like before noon) if you hope to get a room upgrade or a room request honored? :confused3

I would think the later in the evening you check in the less the chance would be but I am pretty new to all this so I thought I would ask the experts :cool1:

Also, would you inquire about an upgrade or do you just hope and cross your fingers behind your back during check-in???

It is so hard to predict what type of room you will get based upon your checkin time. I have been there early and late but have always gotten a nice room so it's really the luck of the draw.

As far as an upgrade, just cross your fingers and hope, that is what I do. Seems like when I don't expect something is when I'm surprised but that is totally up to you.:)
 
In April, we checked in at about 5:30 pm and were upgraded from standard to courtyard. The CM did not mention the upgrade. I discovered it when I walked in the room.
 
I've been upgraded both times I've stayed there with a standard reservation. Both times I checked in in the morning. We weren't told we were upgraded...just happened to find out when we saw our rooms.

However, next trip, I've reserved exactly the room I want. I no longer wish to "hope" for an upgrade there.
 

We booked a standard room for our recent trip to AKL. Upon arrival, I asked if there were any upgrades available that day and was told that there were not but that we could check back each morning if we wanted to. Sometimes people are offered free upgrades, sometimes they are offered discounted upgrades so I think it never hurts to ask.
 
I would request an upgrade if you are concerned about it. However, most upgrades happen without requesting it. :)
 
I've had three different experiences when asking for an upgrade...first try (I was still too "green" to know how to ask), the CM simply said there was none. When I asked at that time (we were checking into the BC) I didn't ask about paying for one, I just asked if there was one.
Second try, at the Poly, I asked and she took the longest time talking to somebody on the phone. Finally came back and said "it will cost you x dollars", and I said thank you, but no thank you...it was too much more. As an aside, she told me that we would like our room, and you can believe we did! The room was in Samoa and it was what I would call a lagoon view..I felt like we DID get an upgrade!
Third try was at check-in at the AKL. I asked if there were any sav. view rooms available as an upgrade. She left to go and check with somebody and came back in a few minutes. We received a partial sav. view which was better than not having any animals outside the balcony. That was a free upgrade. We've never been upgraded without asking.
Next stay will be AKL concierge, so of course, I won't need an upgrade!!:lmao:
 
We checked in WL about 10:30 or so and were upgraded on our view without asking.
