Room Upgrade Chances?

For the first week of July 07, am I right in thinking that a free Loews (blue) room upgrade would be less than likely? Is there any way of trying to swing one before actually checking in and offering a small bribe, sorry I mean tip?

Your chances aren't very good with Blue on July 7th. I have never heard of anyone "tipping" themselves to an upgrade prior to chek in. At check in you can ask if an upgrade is available and if they have one it could cost $35 or so.

With Gold it says:
Enjoy a suite upgrade for only $35 per night, if one is available when you arrive.**

I'm getting really confused! The blue card entitles you to a free upgrade if a room is available. If an upgraded room is not available, then paying $35 to upgrade should not be an option, right? Am I missing something?!

Also, at the RPR, even if you are platinum, and you are a party of 4 or more, the automatic upgrade is to a waterview room, not a suite. At least that is what we have been told the past few times I have tried to book us at the RPR - "the king suites only hold 3, so our upgrade would be to a waterview."

Hence our last few stays at PBH (which we LOVE!).

We booked standard view at HRH, and I assumed if we were upgraded it would be to water view, so sounds like I'm on track. But you've caught my interest now! What is the upgrade at PBH?!
