Hi Everyone

We will be vacationing to Disney in Sept. and staying at the Boardwalk. First time as a DVC member. We have vacationed to disney 5 other times as NON DVC members. We have always stayed at the Swan & Dolphin. Since I have a 6yr and a 1yr children we have always requesed ground floor rooms close to the pool. These rooms always seemed to be very convenient.

Since we will be traveling again this Sept. I have never been to the boardwalk and I am not too familiar with the property. Can anyone give me suggestions as to the most convenient area to request or possible area to avoid. I know that a room request is not a gurantee.

Thanks so much.

What do you have reserved - Standard View, Preferred View - Pool/Garden or Preferred View - Boardwalk view?

Depends on whether you are getting "standard" or "preferred" view. Standard (lower points and only 25% of the rooms) is basically all the units in the front of the building over the valet area, street leading up to it and over the tennis courts. For those a "ground" floor gets you nothing as far as a pool is concerned; upper floor rooms away from the elevators (and thus away from the valet area) get you some view of the upper level fireworks at Epcot.

The rest of the resort, all preferred view, has several options. "Boardwalk" view which can be requested and is actually locked-in at time of ressie if still available is considered by many the best view -- overlooks boardwalk, lake, and you can see Epcot. If you want ground floor and pool, you have two options--ask for ground floor at main, Luna Park, pool area, or ask for ground floor at the quiet pool area depending on which one you want to be near. The various views other than boardwalk are of (a) Luna Park which also see YC, Swan/Dolphin and some even top of MGM, (b) the canal leading to MGM (not the pool area) and see the canal, S/D, and part of YC for many, and (c) the quiet pool area where depending on where room is, you may see S/D, top of MGM, or both.

OK, LOL. If you have a Boardwalk view, there really isn't much to request - other than NS or S. (I think al the BW views are NS, though). You could ask for upper floor or perhaps close/not close to the elevators. IMHO, it doesn't make much difference as all the BW views are great. Some think the fireworks view is better from the rooms that are the farthest from the elevators.

Standard view. Again, most put there S or NS request first. Then it depends on what else you want. If you request upper floor across from the bus stop you will probably have a view of the IllumiNations fireworks from the balcony. These rooms are a bit of a hike from the elevators, though. We like that view as well as the view from the rooms farthest from the elevators. The farther you get from the elevators, the quieter the rooms (less hallway traffic) and the closer you are to MGM. (There are stairways scattered throughout the resort, so you don't have to use the elevators if you can use the stairs) The view from those rooms is of the pond/tennis courts/valet parking lot. Lots of nice landscaping here, too. As far as that goes, there is nice landscaping/flowers between all the standard view rooms and the blacktop areas. The SV rooms overlook the hotel entrance/driveway the parking lots (in the distance). You also see the BWI wing of the resort.

HTH.

We had a SV first floor room one time and it was very convenient to get to the pool/boardwalk. We just used the doors on the first floor. The only thing I didn't like was the "patio" instead of a balcony.

With little ones, it would be nice to be near the elevator, there is only 1 set near the lobby.

We always get a Standard view to save points (extending our stay!), and we like the rooms that overlook the front driveway. There is a stairwell that's at the tennis court end of the front driveway and leads to a sidewalk that goes directly to the bus stop....very convenient! If you exit the same stairwell but go toward the other side of the building, you end up at the quiet pool/Community Hall area....also very convenient! Seems like many times we end up just around the final bend in the hallway overlooking the pond....it's a tradition to watch for the baby ducks in the morning. It's a bit of a ways from the lobby, but that makes it even more quiet. It's the perfect location to us!
