When Disney lists the room size in terms of occupancy (4 person, 5 person, 8 person, etc...), is that a strict number that are allowed? Or is that the maximum that would be considered "comfortable". For example, could a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids), stay in a studio that is listed for 4 people?

It's the max allowed age 3 and up. They do permit 1 extra child under 3, that can sleep in a pack-n-play, cribs are not generally available. Some 1 BR units say 4, but will allow 5 but you must provide your own bed, bedding and towels. And some 2 BR say 8 but will allow 9 as stated above. AK-J value and CCV will NOT allow any extras, limit is 4 in a Stu/ 1 BR and 8 in a 2 BR.

The studios at Beach Club, Boardwalk, Boulder Ridge, Polynesian, Grand Floridian have a max occupancy of 5.
