Room Service Timing?

I think they rescinded the "can't take a plate from the buffet to your room" part. I could be wrong.

EDIT: I wasn't wrong - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/t...just-introduced-7-95-room-service-charge.html

I have to admit, after reading that they "realized" this mistake, I am surprised they did not reverse their decision to charge the room service fee in the first place, or at least lower it to a more reasonable amount (like maybe $3.95 -- which doesn't seem so bad)!

Of course, but one would hope that DCL was aware of the patterns of when people generally order room service and would staff the room service kitchen and delivery staff accordingly.

I'm sure they do put the max number of people on at times when they know traditionally people are ordering things. BUT there are only so many positions for "Room Service" that exist. They are not going to over-staff a department with people who will be doing nothing for all but a couple of hours of "heavy traffic" time. There is no such thing as a part-time job on a cruise ship unlike say your local Domino's which CAN hire part-time people to staff the super busy times.

They might have some who are double trained in say serving in Cabanas and delivering Room Service, but keep in mind that the busy times people are mentioning here - specifically when people are returning from excursions and "needing" pre-dinner snacks - are times that more servers are going to be engaged in setting their dining rooms, so they really can't pull them just to go deliver Cabin 9536's cheese plate. Because then Cabin 9536's table in the MDR might not get set just right with their preferred beverages etc. on the table when they arrive, and Cabin 9536 will complain about THAT. (I just grabbed a cabin number off the top of my head - nothing against anyone who loved 9536. :) )

Yeah, that new "rule" blew up in their faces and they changed it back. People were doing it because of the room service charge -- so who can blame them. But you are allowed to take food from the buffet now. The article I read said that the crew are going to suffer tips since people will be less likely to tip them when they bring the food because of the upcharge. That is a shame. I think if you order a basic continental breakfast you are not charged. This new CEO must be trying to destroy their business since their customer ratings right now are the lowest they have ever been. Oh well -- we'll make the most of it. Luckily I earned a lot of OBC with with credit card, so we'll just chip away at that and when it's gone, they don't get any more of our money LOL
Yep, Continental breakfast and coffee do not have a charge. I think with NCL their big thing is the pricing. A lot of their sailings are thousands of dollars less than Disney and even other lines, they've made a "do it your way" type of cruise experience. If someone wants to go the most economical route then they can get a low cruise fare, and not do any of the upcharges. Others can get a lower fare and then add more.
