First off, we got our documents today for our 10/20 Magic cruise! Woo!

DW was reading the room service section, and it says something like "room service is included except for beverages and snacks." What do they consider snacks?

Good question! I thought most of room service was snacks.

According to the passporter guide you can order anything from the room service menu and all it will cost you is $1-2 dollars/person, tip.

The drinks available with no charge are whole milk, skim milk, chocolate milk, 100% Columbian coffee, 100% Columbian decaffeinated coffee, and a selection of teas.

You can also order cocktails at breakfast for $4.25 each and they offer several EXPENSIVE beer packages.

In general, "snacks" on the cruise refer to prepackaged items like candy bars, bags of chips/popcorn, etc. Anything that is made by the kitchen is free*.

*No charge above the thousands of dollars you have already spent. :)

You should plan on tipping a small amount for room service. Usually $1-$2 per person eating depending on how much you order.

I just looked at the DCL guide I received with my documents, and the way it is worded is

Stateroom Dining - 24 Hour Room Service
Available for all staterooms onboard at no charge (except for snacks and drinks).

I wonder what that means???

I believe snacks refers to packaged stuff like candy and chips. There are other snacks like desserts, cheese platter, fruit, etc that are free.

It will be spelled out very clearly on the room service menu in your stateroom. As for the snacks not included, like the other poster said, it refers to candy, chips, stuff like that. Not sure about the beverages. I know that sodas are charged because they are in cans and of course alcohol. There are so many things available from room service for no charge, that you won't even want the "snacks".

Since it is a cashless system, do I need to have lots of singles for tipping or can I get change somewhere on board?

Be Careful,

I believe (I may be wrong) but they may charge for tea at room service.

3-circles used to post a matrix that shows what was free where.

Anyone have it?

I brought a stack of singles - $100 worth for my 7 day cruise for my wife and I though I only used probably $30 of it. I used the balance for to buy stamps at the CC post office and to add extra to the staff tips.

I think you can get change at Guest Serivces.

last year we took $2 bills and $1 coins onboard for room service tips ... probably what we'll do next month too. :hyper:

Where do you find $2 bills? I thought they'd been taken out of circulation.

I usually bring a stack of $1's and a roll of quarters for the laundry. We have never been charged for room service, but usually order food, not snacks. You can order things like popcorn, candy, etc. that is charged.

Well, at the risk of sounding obvious, a bank. My husband got tons of $2 bills recently. They aren't out of circulation, just not that common.

Haven't been able to get $2 bills here on the West Coast for several years. Banks don't stock them and mine wouldn't even request them for me unless I wanted $1000 worth!! The two young (early 20s) tellers had never seen one. I had read about using them on this board. I usually try to travel with about $30 in $1's for tips, which I ended up doing again.
I have snagged a couple of $2 bills for my kids coin collection.
