Room Service- or other places NO FORMAL

My DH is a little worried about the formal nights on the cruise.. No for him, for my parents.. What does Room Service offer, or where else can my parents just sit and eat something if they don't want to do the formal thing..
and how formal are we talking?

Most men wear suits women wear dresses.
They can also eat in the buffett, Topsiders, which is casual.

I would not be to worried about the formal night - you see guys in tuxs, suits, sportcoats, etc. women in evening gowns, dresses, skirts, etc. it really is a fun time!

I think they would be comfortable in the dinning rooms, as long as they dont wear jeans or shorts. Everything else is fine. Room Service has a limited menu, but if you are a 4,3,2, or 1 stateroom you get full meals from all resturants. Also there are places on deck to go less formal. Plutos, ect.

I don't think that those in category 4 get full meals from the restuarants, just the concierge levels, 1, 2, and 3.

I wear dress shirt and a tie, slacks and sandals with dark socks (really). I would feel comfortable in a polo and slacks too. DW wears a blouse/skirt or slacks/sweater. DS's wear same as dad (except sometimes they wear shoes) and DD wears a cute dress.

Don't sweat it. Go and enjoy. Like someone else said, don't come in jeans, swim suit or shorts.

The tux/suit crowd mostly feels that I ruin the evening for them by not dressing up and not going elsewhere for those meals. I have sat at a table with one man in a tux, another in a suit and a couple of us in dress shirts (yes it was a huge table and none of the families knew each other before the cruise!) We still had a wonderful time in our various stages of formal dress. We even had an officer join us for dinner one night and we showed him a great time.

It's not the clothes, its the company!!!

Oh please do indulge in the formal and semi formal nights. You will LOVE them! I am not the formal kind of gal but I absolutely had a wonderful experience! I live in my jeans and tennies and freaked out about having to get something for formal night. I went to J.C. Penny's and bought a pant suit, nothing fancy of course. Something that I knew I'd wear again. Just think of it as going to a wedding.
Now, my reason for not missing it..dessert!! Everyone talks about the desserts and I wasn't going to miss it, after all I love my sweets! I was not disappointed! Please don't let the dress code deter you from a excellent experience.

Basically, you can wear anything you want in the dining rooms except shorts or jeans. Your mother would be totally comfortable in a pantsuit, your dad in a shirt and pants or a sports coat. You can go as formal as you wish. My DD has fun "dressing up" for formal night, but you certainly don't have to. You/they won't feel out of place if you don't dress up.

If you choose not to dress up, you can go to the Topsider's buffet, order from room service, or get pizza, hamburgers, etc. by the pool...or go to the dining room in comfortable casual. It's really low profile, you can go as dressy as you wish or as casual as you need.

Another thing to note is that people do not stay dressed up all evening. Most dress up right before dinner, and change back right after. If bringing the extra clothes is the problem, you do not have to go over board packing since you only wear them for a short time.

good point jennyl772003....
my son made a beeline for our stateroom to change out of the clothes he wore to dinner....not that he was all that fancy....
just chinos and a polo shirt...
but the moment dinner was over, he raced for the room to change back to his shorts and t-shirt....
he wore the same chinos and polo to dinner every night....no need to bring tons of clothes on the cruise....no one cares what you wear...

Thanks for all the information. I'll see how comfortable my parents feel. I will be dressed up, and so will my family, it's just my parents I'm worried about. My mom won't even wear a dress to church. My dad thinks flannels with out a sweatshirt under neaath is dressing up.. ( he is always complaining bout being cold).
