Room requests through Touring Plans that cannot be made through MS?

Personally I have no problem with dvc renter being able to make room request through touring plan. The rented reservations are also made by DVC owners, having the same priority in term of room request seem fair to me.

I don’t think Touring Plans gets priority, and they don’t charge to make the requests-my sense is that they just know how the put the request in terms that get granted. So, instead of asking for this one specific room number-a request very difficult for Disney to fill unless the previous occupants are checking out same day and no one prior to you asked for it-they’ll ask for a range or description of rooms with certain characteristics. You can’t request a view type for AKV Value, so they suggest you request even numbered, as those are the Savannah view rooms.
I do believe this is more the case, sort of better insight to work the system.
Eg a request for savanna value studio would look like this:
Jambo,Flr 5,N-facing room.Exmple:5134,5132,5136,5130,5126,4134,5124,4132,4136

Touring plans.
I appreciate the clarification. In that case, even though the member is submitting the request themselves (through TP), it is a request that can not be made through MS for AK value rooms, but can be made through an outside vendor's website. That just seems wrong, especially if you need to pay to subscribe to TP in order to use that feature and non-members can submit requests through TP.

We don't really know if those requests are actually looked at but there have also been people report on here that they make requests for value rooms through MS.

I saw two posts where members indicated they were able to make room request through Touring Plans that they could not make by calling MS.
I know you can make room requests on the member website, but those are extremely limited. I have always called MS with more specific requests. However, one of the posters said they called MS and were told they could only add the requests that were available online. However, through Touring Plans they were able to make a more specific room request.

What gives? I do not think Touring Plans is affiliated directly with DVC, so how can someone even make a DVC room request through Touring Plans? As a DVC owner, do I now need to pay $17.95 to subscribe to Touring Plans to make more detailed room requests?

ETA: The two posts I saw were on the Resort forum, but I thought this question was a better fit for this forum.
I was told by TP that they can do a req for me even though Im only renting points. If I remember right they said it has something to do with they go direct to the room assigners at a specific time where doesn't really matter how you got the room in the 1st place whether you are an owner or not etc.

I'm guessing TP contacts the resort room assigner AFTER the reservations have downloaded to the assigner, usually a week or so prior to check-in.

They send a fax over 30 days before check-in.

And yet, DVC Members were told repeatedly in member publications a few years ago not to do that, and the faxes wind up in the trash....so...who knows?

I will say that a couple of times when they've faxed requests for me I got the exact room requested. This was in our pre-DVC days.

ETA: But the other dozen or so times we got nowhere near what we requested....

I put in requests to MS and via Touring Plans. I find that if I'm more general (Ex: Ground Floor) versus more specific (Room XYZ or rooms facing E), it's more likely to be fulfilled. I do modify TP to be general.

Can someone explain this to me: when I was just at Beach Club (as dvc owner) there was nothing to request - as in the room request through MDE had nothing in the drop-down area or any place to write comments.

Online checkin is only minimally or often not at all useful for making requests. As an owner, it’s better to submit requests via chat, email or phone and then leave the online checkin request section blank.

Yes, I’ve seen that, just never got actual email notice until 2 or so weeks prior.

fyi, didn’t finalize last couple of trips this year (bonus type booked via CRO) until literally a week to a few weeks out. Did get approx location requested.

DVC renter here :) Made a request through TP and literally the room could not have been further from the request. BUT, since it is past 5 now, just glad to have a room lol
