Room Requests - How important is a word?

OK. So I wonder why so many of my room ressies come back and the request is not worded the way I asked. It's not that it's complicated, but just that one or two words is different. So I'm hoping some of you can tell me - do you think it makes a difference?

Case #1: Std view BWV 2br. I asked for "Across from the Bus Stop" they wrote "Near the Bus Stop"

Case #2: Std view BWV studio. I asked for "Upper floor" they wrote "Top Floor"

Aside from why-can't-they-just-use-the-exact-word-when-it's-so simple - do you think this makes enough of a difference to call and correct them? Anyone else see this in their ressies?

And yes, I talk English. :-)

Semantics. I suspect they have stock phrases in their computers. They mean the same thing anyway.

My guess would be that they select an option from a list in their computer system. Most requests we make for rooms are of a standard type, so they have these pre programmed, and so don't key them in.

I have no first hand knowledge of this, but I would guess they have certain "codes" they type in to meet requests. For example 1=Dedicated 2=Lock-off 3=Non-Smoking and so forth and their set requests are just worded in a different manner than yours.

Looks like three of us posted at the same time - great minds must think alike!

Specifically, I was told by MS that they couldn't type in "upper floor" when I asked for it, so they use "top floor". The intent is to get high up, so they use shortcuts rather than trying to match 75 different types of room requests to any given days worth of check-ins.

I have had touble recently too. For an ressie I made, I asked for early check in. When the confirmation came in the mail, it said "early check-out". So I had to call and change it. Next confirmation letter was corrected. For another ressie, I wanted another name on the reservation. Let's just say, I'm on my third confimation letter (haven't rec'd it yet) and I'm hoping we have it now. I guess the confimation letters are important! Moral of the story, double check those letters and call with changes.:teeth:

One time I requested Turtle Pond Road at OKW, the confirmation came back as "near Turtle Pond pool". I called and had it corrected, I didn't care about the pool. We ended up with a great room in building 31 (which is not near the pool).

I typically send MS an email to delete what they have added for special requests and add what I have outlined in my email...always works like a charm. I never ask for more than 3-4 things..non smoking, non handicapped, top floor, near pool etc... Never had a confirmation letter reflect what I initially asked for. I figure a quick email, it's written, not tying up a phone line where more misunderstanding might happen, etc.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone.

And good idea Peggy Sue!

Peggy Sue-
So you email MS after you already have your ressie with your requests? And it has so far worked? How far out do you email MS before your trip?
Thanks!

Last week I was making my "one month before we leave" check-up of all the vacation paticulars when I noticed that we had requested a "high chair". Our son is 15 (going on 30) and no longer needs a high chair. So I called MS and told them what I had requested was a room on the "upper floor" of whatever building they assign us. The nice young woman at MS told me that they "must have used the wrong CODE". So I assume that most requests are entered via a code of some-sort that has canned language attached to it.
