Room Requests?? Corner Room?

I see that lots of people request corner rooms? My question is why? Do you get any extra space or just an extra window? Where is the window, and what does it take the place of?
I am getting ready to make our ressie for our trip (12/26-01/01) at POR and these are my requests so far

AB BLDG 27
1st floor
Nonsmoking room

Should I ask for a corner room too? I don't want to make my request too picky for fear they pass over it.

I really want nonsmoking (have to have this) and Alligator Bayou. Would Really Like BLDG 27, but if we end up somewhere else in AB that is fine too. BTW we are a party of 3 so I know we are not guaranteed AB. Thanks

You may already know this, but you should always request things in the order of importance to you. For example, if non-smoking is most important, it should be listed first on your requests. Room assigners try to give at least one request and try to give what is most important to you if at all possible. They assume that the first thing on the list is the most important.
Asking for a specific building limits your options, so many people instead just ask for a general area or view. There may be many non-smoking, first floor rooms in AB on the day you check in, but none in Building 27. Adding that you want a corner room further limits the number of rooms that meet your requests.

I agree with the previous poster but would add that you should have these requests put in your reservation. So many people are faxing that reports are saying the faxes are being ignored.

Also we have had wonderful luck just asking at checkin. We have always gotten what we requested that way.
