We have a trip planned in January. We have 17 going at this point. My question is; this is our first stay at OKW and we have half of these that are going that are older; my grandparents, In-laws, and uncle and aunt are all going to need either handicapp rooms or elevators up to the room if not on ground floor. How do you all get your requests made? I did not put in any requests when I booked these rooms except a Handicapped room for my inlaws and husbands aunt who is diabetic causing some dificulties getting around. My grandparents are staying with us in a 2bedroom and the others will all be in studios.

How do I do the request that we all be close to each other and all? Any help would be great. Thanks!!

Make sure that you make your handicapped accessible requests for medical reasons. Bldg 62, 63 and 64 have elevators. You may or may not get them close to each other. All they can do is try if you have it on your request.

First thing to think of is whether they actually need handicapped (wheelchair accesisble) rooms or just rooms on the ground level.
If they need raised seat toilets, roll in showers or roll under sinks, then you should ask for wheelchair accesible rooms. If all they need is to be on the ground floor, you can request first floor or building with elevator for Medical reasons. The rooms for medical reasons are assigned before the general request rooms. We have been requesting rooms in this way since we became members in 1993 and haven't had a problem. The rooms at OKW are plenty big for driving around in the room with a wheelchair or ecv. The wheelchair accessible rooms are the same size; it's just toilets, shower and countertops that are different. If they do need raised seat toilets, but not the other features, you can rent toilet seats or commodes.

If you ask for wheelchair accessible rooms, you may find the rooms are not that close together. There are not that many rooms at OKW that are wheelchair accessible. I had emailed MS a long time ago to ask how many wheelchair accessible rooms there are at OKW. The answer I got was were 29 one bedrooms, 30 two bedrooms and 29 studios. When I asked for clarification of what this meant, I was told there was one dedicated 2 bedroom and 29 lock offs that could be made into studio, one or two bedroom units.

So, if you don't actually need the wheelchair features, you would be able to be assigned to any first floor room and the chances of getting rooms close together are greater.

If you are a DVC member or staying on points, Member Services takles care of Special Needs requests. If you are making cash reservations thru Disney, you can call WDW Special Reservations at 407-939-7807 (TTY: 407-939-7670)
