How far in advance does anyone request a room with touring plans?
Thx

You can make it anytime and they will fax it a few days before your check in. I already have ours set for a late May trip.

Good luck. We tried this several times, and never ended up close to what we asked for. Didn't really matter to us. We were trying it more to see if it worked. Our data points said it didn't. YMMV.

I used it for the first time this trip, but I also called in my request. I hope the honor it. I’ll find out in 2 weeks!!

TP works as well as calling your request in. Sometimes they can honor the request, sometimes they can’t.

Any request - no matter how it is made - is ONLY a request. There are never guarantees. There are a finite number of rooms that would meet any given request, and sometimes it's just flat-out not possible to grant them.

From what I have read on this and other forums, the commonality of those that ARE granted seems to be they specifically list out their priority for the requests.

Like... "My requests are in this order of priority: 1) Surfs Up; 2) Top Floor; 3) King bed." as opposed to "I'd like a room in the Surfs Up section on the top floor and with a King bed."

While on the surface they look the same, the first makes it clear what I want as my highest priority, second, and then and only then third. So the assigner would (in theory) look at the Surfs Up section for availability. Assuming availability there, the assigner would then look for any top floor rooms in the Surfs Up section. Assuming both of those were met, then and only then, the assigner would look to see if any of those were King rooms. But if there were no King rooms, the assigner would know that it's ok because the first two were met. Or even just the first. The second phrasing makes no distinction and so the room assigner has no clue what is most important to me - and therefore I might end up with one portion of the request but not the main one, or may end up with none because the assigner doesn't know what is most important.

Also requesting a general area is usually easier than a specific room. And limiting the requests to no more than three.

I always make general requests & have never used TP to make them, just call them in & I’ve always had my requests honored - but again, they’re always very general & apparently not difficult to accommodate.
Kinda wondering if TP is actually sending them in.

Last fall, we used TP to fax in our room request about 10 days before we arrived, and we got the room next door to the one we requested, which I think was pretty good! We waited until about 12 days before to actually make the request; I don't know if that makes a difference.

They don’t fax it until like 5 days before, so no. Whether you configure the fax 12 or 112 days in advance makes no difference.

Sometimes they can meet requests, others they cannot.

I think (if they’re sent at all) they are probably just placed into what we call at my work, the “special filing cabinet” (shredder)
No I'm positive they are not
I have had the CM at the resort read the note I include on the fax when I check in. They have no way to do that if the fax was not read. So they read them. That doesn't mean they fill every request. Clearly they can't

I made general requests thru my TA back in November: King bed, VIP cleaning, and a mattress topper. I made a specific room request via Touringplans fax service last week. The text from Disney arrived on the way to the airport with my room assignment. It was the exact room that I requested! Now I just need to get there to see if the other requests were met.

I am sure I came across an answer to this in threads I read ages ago, but am hoping you will provide some advice that saves me hunting. I have configured a TP fax and included in the comment section my two most important requests labeled as such. I am thinking best to make sure I don't have any room requests on my reservation (made over the phone ages ago) so there is no risk of confusion or inconsistency. OR should I try to mirror the TP request on my reservation via phone??

(Thanks in advance, AngiTN. I see you on so many useful threads. I am thankful for all the experienced DISers that share their insight!)

As long as you do not contradict the requests either via phone or online check-in there's no real harm in putting them on there.

Just be sure NOT to check the "early arrival is most important" box with online check-in!!! (Unless that truly is most important.)

Just keep in mind that sometimes you might not get what room type you want, even if you put online requests in, called them in, and faxed them in. They are requests, but not guarantees.

Yep. I get that. Just want to increase my chances! Besides...thinking about and planning for this trip is much more fun than the other things I should be working on!

Putting them on more than once doesn't increase the odds. The TP fax, calling them in, or using the online check-in menu (assuming your requests are there) each put the requests on your reservation whichever comes in first. The others would likely get a check to make sure they are on there, but I doubt they are putting "This was faxed in as well" on there.

Glad to help out where I can.

I look at it different than a lot of others. Some think you should make your request only 1 way. I do not. I think you can make it as many ways as you want, as long as they are all exactly the same. If you can do that, there won't be any risk of confusion. And, if one method doesn't work, or stick, then another stands getting through.
For instance, if the fax fails for some reason (because let's face it, we all know fax machines do fail, paper or electronic) or if the MDX request glitches (because let's face it, we've all seen glitches on MDX) or if you call and the request made via phone doesn't get saved (yes, sometimes they do get lost off the reservation)
So I would indeed use the fax service to request a room and then use online check in and check a box that also matches features the room has (if the choices match). I rarely call and add any requests since mine are never specific enough to need to call.
