Room Request ignored again...

I used to be a Hotel General Manager. There is a huge sense on entitlement with regard to the general public. That being said, DVC members tend to be "entitled" x 100.(I paid $xxx for this membership/I want to speak with your supervisor,etc...). I did not manage a Disney property. I would treat people the way they treated me. If their reservation requests came across the computer system triple underlined and punctuated with exclaimation points-sorry, your perfect room was occupied! If you acted like a human being with please and thank you's-guess what - your room was available. I practice the same policy when making my reservations. I make NO requests. I check-in and NICELY request whatever view,area,etc.. I would like. I have always received what I have asked for. No dumpster, parking lot or HA rooms. I may have to wait for them-but, a little politeness goes a LONG way. For those of you who think "entitled" people are a minority, they are not. It happens more often than not.I personally thank every Disney employee I come across-they are fighting on a battlefield every single day. If you run into one with a less than sunny disposition they have probably have had their fill of entitled people for that day. Off my soap box.

We usually travel with fellow DVCer friends and our only request is to be near one another with always has happened. This pas t summer we also requested a specific building and got that as well plus got one of the few great ocean views in the villas! Just lucked out on that.

I do think it would be a good thing to give some consideration to people staying in their home resort particularly when they make their reservations 11 months out. I do understand there are a tremendous amount of factors that come into play in assigning rooms. I worked in a large hotel in my college years and it was really a struggle then when we were all manual. Seems like the technology available now should help tremendously in that regard, however if what you request isn't available, it isn't available. I do agree with the previous poster it is much better to handle things in a courteous manner which is really not a problem for me, but I have seen some with the sense of entitlement that you mentioned. Having worked with the public a great deal I realize if you want to be treated well, you need to do the same.

The big problem with requests being assigned when they are booked is the fact that People over stay their ressies. Things change from day to day, hour to hour, min to min. Room problems, plumbing, electrical.

The fact that your requests don't show up on your reservation when they assign the rooms is a big problem. I have had it happen more than once and usually ask about them upon check in. They usually make accommodations if possible. I have found that staying calm and being very appreciative works very well.

Also, another poster had mentioned people don't make requests at other places. From my experience people frequently make requests at high end places. My father is a big traveler and is in many of the "frequent" stay programs. Also, he is a million mile club member on a few airlines. He makes requests all the time. I have traveled with him many times and have seen unbelievable requests made and always granted( not by him but some people we have traveled with) at the hotels and resorts not Airlines( that is another thread ).

I always make our room requests 3-4 days out. Then, when we're checking in, I always confirm our requests. When we were at SSR in May, they had no record of our requests but were more than happy to honor them. (And we had a split stay, so they helped us out both times.)

And then came our first stay at our home resort Kadini villas.:rolleyes1
Forget the requests, lets just work on the guaranteed room and view.:confused3

It all worked out in the end:hippie:

This is my concern when we check in next Saturday. We have on our reservation to please keep our two studios close since we are traveling with grandparents in their 90's. I put the request in when I made the reservation at 11 months and then just emailed Member Services to reiterate. Asked to not be too high if possible (they were in a hotel fire once and are nervous about being up to high). Since we get in around 7pm on the Saturday before Thanksgiving I am thinking our chances of getting any of our request are NILL! Oh well, I will try and be happy with what we get and just keep thinking it is just an inconvenience not a disaster!

I see by your signature you are at BLT. Lower floor might be easier to get since most people want a high floor for view.

We had an instance where we ahd a request at reservation time to be in Congress Park. Upon arrival, we were given Grandstand. I appreciate that they cannot fulfill all requests, so I asked them to confirm that their system showed the request. It did not....so I showed them my confirmation that was mailed to me with the request clearly noted. They claimed that the ressie system is different from the check-in system. Shouldn't this all come form the same database? In any case, had a great time, but to not even have a chance......

This is my main concern. Our last trip, I was told that the request got wiped out when I did the online check in 10 days before hand. I waited to check-in at the resort this time and my request was still not on file so somehow, somewhere during the process, the information is deleted. Just who actually gets to view the request? It's quite misleading actually.

I won't do online check-in again and will just work with the CM at the resort to get something suitable when we get there.

And to everyone who said they're happy with whatever they get, let me know when you'll be there and I'll gladly trade you my ground floor room with the parking lot view. Noise and exhaust aside, it's still Disney. :p:p

OK, educate me. What is wrong or undesirable about HA rooms?

Although I'm not DVC Jackie, I can tell you what we don't like about the HA rooms we've had. There is NO space on the bathroom sink, so you have to put all your toiletries on the floor (unless you know in advance and have an over the door basket or something). There is no tub-my arthritic knees really don't like that. The vanity area is inside the toilet area-no split bath. And the closet area is very limited. Oh, and the water from the shower gets all over the bathroom floor (at least ours did).

As Simba's Mom stated modifications must be made to the room that may be incovenient for non-handicapped people. Most have no tubs, high counters(to fit wheelchairs underneath),less storage, visual fire alarms, etc....When a hotel is running at capacity those rooms must go to someone. As a side note... when you make and guarantee a hotel reservation that hotel has the responsibility(legally) to provide you with (A) hotel room-not necessarily the type, view or floor you REQUESTED. There was many a time when we overbooked and had to pay to transport and pay to get the guest a room at another hotel. That would not happen because you were not happy with the view,etc...but because there were NO rooms available. Sorry for the CAPS-just did not want to be misunderstood and misquoted.

Just a note that all one bedroms and larger HA units, except for one oddball unit at AKV Jambo, should have the whirlpool tub, but may also have a roll-in shower. Studios usually do not have a tub in the HA units. but a roll-in shower only.
