Room Request- How did you do it and did you get it?

I requested partial savanna view at AKL Jambo two years ago and got a fantastic room overlooking the animal barns. We saw every animal and watched them being fed and checked over. On the other hand it was a longer walk from the lobby. Make sure your request is truly your priority!

Been using TP room request fax for years and have had great luck. We always get exactly or close to what we request when we go on our September trips. This past March trip, we got the opposite but they ended up moving our room to where we requested so it worked out in the end.

I have requested particular buildings for a few of my trips and have always gotten them.
I’ve never called the reservation line, I’ve always called the resort I’m staying at directly and requested that way. I call 10 days before the trip and then a couple of days before, I follow up to make sure there is a note there for what we wanted. I’ve always gotten the request fulfilled. To be fair though, my request is pretty generic with just a building I would prefer to be in and not a specific room so I think that’s why me and my fiancé have always had luck with it!
Unless things have changed in the last couple of years, you cannot call a resort directly. What phone number did you use, so I can have it it for my information?

You can get the numbers right on disney's site where the resort location is. i've never had an issue calling!

The numbers that Disney shows on their site do not actually go to the resort Front desk. Those numbers all go to a call center somewhere not even in Orlando. Essentially, you're calling the main reservation line, despite how they answer the phone.

Last time I went, I called through the group reservation line and requested to be close to the Skyliner at Caribbean Beach. I got room 4105, which is the 5th closest room to the Skyliner station in the entire resort, and I think that's one of the best places to stay on property.

I would call the resort phone number and have your confirmation number ready. They can enter it and the wait shouldn't be long.
I thnk there must be a huge amount of canceling and re-booking going on...

Common wisdom is that if a person places a call (such as to the phone number listed for the resort on disneyworld.com) and they think they are talking to someone at the resort, they are actually talking to someone at an off-site call center. If you figured out a way to direct-dial a Disney resort and actually speak to someone who is at that resort when you speak to them, I think people here would love to know how you did it.

Edit: sorry, other people were posting about this same thing.

We are 6 weeks out staying at BWV. DH has no clue I am surprising him with a 1 brdm villa and I have mentioned we "might" have a balcony since he LOVES balconies. So not matter what I know we have that. I have a Stand View book directly through Disney. I'm on the fence in trying to request one of the X123 rooms (wrap around balcony but only 3 available in the whole resort). I know a "Room Request" is just that...you are requesting and hoping for the best. But I wondered how others did it, phone call directly to resort? I don't have TP and I'm not a DVC owner to put requests in that way nor a fax machine. Do they take email request? Also did you end up getting your request when you made it and how far out did you do it. My only "on the fence" part it knowing it's a walk from the lobby/boardwalk (where all the food is) and we plan on walking to EPCOT every night and it's one of the furthest room locations from EPCOT...but man, I really like that wrap around Balcony! LOL Thanks for filling in on what you know!
If you rented points, the owner of the points would need to contact MS to make your request. If you booked for cash via Disney Reservation Center, just call them and add your request. Don't be too specific, like one or two rooms, just something general. DVC resorts do not accept faxes. You cannot call the resort directly.

I stayed at the Contemporary, Yacht Club and Copper Creek last week and requested being close to elevators and it would have been very close to impossible to be farther away.
Edited to add: I used an online check in. Perhaps this is where I messed up!

Edited to add: They were not able to offer Contemporary or Copper Creek by their check in time so keep that in mind.

if I call the resort (or the call center) a few weeks in advance with the room request, should I also call 72 hours in advance to check on it? or the morning we check in?

Yeah, that was what I was thinking, because if you look at all resort numbers they're all the same ones, so could not be going to the actual resort. Just WDW doing their "misdirection" like the lobby button on their room phones. LOL

I remember hearing that rooms are assigned 5 days before check-in date but I’m not sure how accurate that is in COVID times.

Any tips on renting DVC points? I have to have 10 points before I can go on the DVC Rent/Trade site.

....we just got back on Tuesday night from a stay in a standard 1BR villa at BWV. When I originally booked it, I had requested a specific room. I had to call a week later about another issue, but mentioned it when I was speaking to the CM - she noted that my request hadn't even been listed on my reservation! So, I requested that same room a second time. When we arrived, it was not available at check-in, so I requested another specific room (by room number) and that WAS available [which is why you should always have a back-up plan! :teeth: ] We were checking in at around noon, so you can imagine how pleased I was that the room was actually ready!

BTW, this was our view:
