Room Ready System!!!!!!

Thanks Dean, my whole point is just as you are saying. IMO The BWV are not really in this discussion because you basically know what you are getting (as a member) before you arrive and therefore when you arrive no matter what time. I would think working the check in would also be easier because of this. It also "rewards" the owner of the points that can plan ahead-which seems to be a concern to some owners of the smaller resorts. Owners of the larger resorts are excluded in these choices until 7 months and they are looking for any leverage to level the playing field by the room ready system because all chances become equal on the day of check in. Cant blame them, its hard enough to get in the smaller resorts at all, much less the "preferred" rooms, but thats where owning where you want to stay come in to play.

That's true about knowing what you are getting at BWV. In Dec we arrived at about 11:30, and had booked boardwalk view. We tried to check in, but the room wasn't ready. We didn't even ask about the location, we knew it was a boardwalk view, so the floor and the proximity to the elevator would have been the only things we even COULD have requested. These things didn't matter to us, so we didn't even ask. We came back at 4 PM and were given the keys. Got 5th floor, but ALL the way at the end of the hallway. :teeth: We happily went to our room and it was perfect.

For Oct we booked standard view. We are making no location requests. We already know it's going to be standard view, so what does it even matter? Being able to book standard or boardwalk view was a factor in buying BWV for us. we ultimately picked it over BCV for this reason. Maybe BWV doesn't have the request problems that other DVC resorts have because of this. Members know when they check in that if they didn't book boardwalk view they sure aren't going to get it, just like in the hotel part of the resort.

I wonder if they will do this at SSR with the DTD view. It would certainly give SSR owners an advantage 11 mos.

Nope...we like the way it works now. Due to medical reasons we have to have non-smoking. We always get a non-smoking room but in the past they have been right above or next to a smoking room. The smoke drifts up to our room from the other balconies (or people in non-smoking rooms that smoke on the balconies anyway). We request certain rooms based on the resort and know which rooms do not have the drifting smoke.....
Don't change a thing.

:scared:

People must think I'm a picky son of a gun, I'm really not. I always requested N/S, upper floor, Epcot view at BCV. Three simple requests, and I KNOW THEY ARE JUST REQUESTS. I also have to state for the record that I have NOT been complaining about not having ALL 3 of my requests met, nor did I expect to either.

I broke it down and I'll have to admit, I did make it hard for them to meet all 3 of my requests anyway. We mostly stay in 1 bedrooms so there would be 15 of what I'd call upper floor Epcot view on the 3rd thru 5th floors, with only 2 of them being smoking on the 4th. There's an additional 10 rooms on the 1st and 2nd floor facing Epcot, which most people wouldn't want due to the road noise, and 30 upper floor (3rd thru 5th) N/S rooms not facing Epcot.

So that's only 13 that met all 3 requests, BUT there's 42 more that would have met 2 of my requests; upper Epcot, N/S upper or N/S Epcot.
So out of 94 total 1 bedrooms at BCV, 55 would have made me happy having met 2 of my requests. Thats over half, 58.5% of the room type I'm checking into. I don't think I'm out of line thinking that I should be able to check into a room I'd be happy with most of the time, and that just didn't happen under the "Room Ready" system.

i never request anything except to be next to the party i am travelling with and i always get the farthest rooms from the lobby toward the parking lot at the BW...i know people dont like it or request but we love it..you can see Epcot fireworks from the jacuzzi..you have a 2 minute walk to the bus..a 7 minute walk to MGM.....hopefully this year will be the same..
if i remeber correctly i think it was room 3121....i have had same room on 2 different occasions...the long walks dont bother me..what another 1/4 mile after you walked all day in the parks........

I personally would be OK with totally eliminating requests altogether as long as smoking/non-smoking could be guaranteed. Of course, I would expect Disney to follow ADA requirements.

Best wishes -

I've been in a non-smoking room to only breathe the "porch smoke" from another room....
and I have gotten up at 6:30am to check-in at another resort early enough to get a request filled. I don't think this is fair to out-of-town guests who have a later flight but with twins, I had to do what I had to to get close to a pool and bus stop! The next two years after that lesson learned, I've booked earlier flights to get there and wait.

I agree with Buckylarue. Adherence to the 4 pm check in. I live in a resort town in Florida and own a few cleaning businesses and just making that 4 PM check in is tough. By the way ther are not as many clean rooms available as you think before 4 PM. Most vacationers check in check out/check in on a Saturday. I assure you that on Saturdays the cleaning staff is doing all they can to get these rooms ready on time. I am quite sure this is another reason why points are higher on Fridays and Saturdays. Its not just DVC'ers that rant and rave, I have seen in it in every condo, hotel, and motel I have ever stayed at or cleaned my self. Trust me there is nothing more wonderful than a family of six coming in on you while you are trying to get the carpets cleaned for them because the last set of guests trashed the place. For all the whiners, ranter and ravers out there I wish they could do the work for one day that all these cleaning maids do, they might have a different perspective the next time they check in.
