Room Ready Policy

What are your feelings about the Room Ready policy?

  • I like getting into my room quickly so requests don't matter.

  • I don't mind getting my room earlier but I'd like my requests met more often.

  • I would rather wait for my room to get more of my requests met.

  • I never get my requests met and am thinking about or have sold my DVC.

Just wanting to know what the current feelings are about the "Room Ready" policy.
I personally don't like it, and since our requests have been ignored the last few trips I don't regret our decision to sell our DVC interests. I'd rather spend the $$ to stay at other Disney property's where we've never had problems having our requests met in the past.

Truthfully, at OKW I never really noticed a big difference. If several rooms were available when we checked in, we were given general info on the locations and could take our pick. If nothing was available, then we waited and took what they gave us.

I've only not gotten the general area I wanted once, and I also accepted a smoking room because it was ready when we arrived early and we didn't want to wait (that was our choice). While a few rooms at OKW have less desirable views (IMO) and a few have better than average views, I think one room at OKW is pretty much like any other. I've always had requests to be 'near" another party honored, sometime they were in the unit above us, sometimes in the same building, and once, in the bldg next door.

Yea, if we buy again in the future it will be OKW resales or maybe SSR. But I still love the BCV area and it's proximity to my favorite park, Epcot. I just don't want to have to complain at check-in to get one request met, it takes away from the Magic.

I would rather wait and we have always been asked at check-in. They tell us what is available closest to our requests and ask if we would like that or check back later. That works for us as we can decide on the spot.

We usually check-in before noon so it varies if much is available.

Same here; since the new policy went into effect, we've always been offered the choice of waiting for what we requested, or taking something available at the time. More often than not, we choose to take the room that's available, as we've never really had a 'bad' room at a DVC resort.

I'm willing to wait if necessary for a non-smoking room. The other requests are not as important. (and I tell MS that) It would be nice to get into the room eariler but I'll just go to a park and return later. I pack to accomodate the later check-in time. If I get another request, great. If not, I'm going to have a magical time anyway!

We have called each time to request a room near an AED machine due to our DD. DVC has been more than gracious in fulfilling these requests (also requested NS). We still have had a room available each time close to noon or so. I think they're great about requests.

My problem is that we usually arrive late in the day and I have a *perception* that I will get the bottom of the barrel room. I'm not sure if it is true but it would stand to reason...... and I end up worrying about it way too much.

Can someone post the new policy or sum it up? I must have missed something.

Waiting doesn't bother me. We don't normally spend any time in the room immediately upon arrival anyway except to dump the bags, so if waiting a little bit will get me a room that's closer to my requirements, I have no problem with it.

It used to be that the room assigner at your resort received the reservaton list a few days in advance, would go through it , and assign rooms based on requests and when the ressie was made. This led to some folks rooms being ready early and other folks having to wait for the room that was pre-assigned to them. A lot of folks expressed that they would be happier getting a room if one was open rather that waiting.

Now, under room ready, they will check the inventory, if a room is available you are assigned to it. The effectiveness of this strategy varies resort to resort and season to season depending upon occupacy levels.

We've only been once so far but this was nothing like our experience at SSR. When we checked in, we were told that rooms are pre-assigned - no choices offered - call back around 4pm to see if it's ready. I'd actually like at least to be offered a choice but not that time.

We're staying at VWL next time so we'll see if that check in experience is any different.

All I want is a non-smoking room. When we arrived at VWL on 12/29, the room they had asigned us was not ready. My I had made all sorts of requests, top floor, facing lake. But the biggest is NON SMOKING!!! They said I couldnt get a lake room, all taken, (which is probably right because we were coming in middle of the holiday week), but they had a 2 bedroom ready, non-smoking but facing the woods (yeah, how about bus pickup!!) I said that would be fine, and it was. We were in 5548, great room, had a mold issue in the bathroom and called housekeeping and they came up and took care of it, no problems. For the amount of time I spend in my room, it really doesn't matter where they put me, as long as its Non smoking and not first floor.

11-month bookers should get request preference. 7-month bookers and CRO guests should get the leftovers.

Really? I was at SSR in late November and when I got there, they gave me a choice of 3 different rooms. I picked the one that was ready. This was at 1pm on a Sunday.

For our last two stays, we were not given a choice or asked if we would like to wait for requests, we were just told our room was not ready even though we checked in early in the day. At BCV, after waiting two hours (during a very slow time) we went back and asked if any rooms were available since ours still wasn't and then were given a choice or several rooms. We still wonder why we weren't given a choice initially but we have now learned to ask if any rooms are available when we are told our pre-assigned room is not ready yet.

I could live with this "room ready" policy if only it was instituted all the time, all the places. It's been so sporadic! Last month, when I checked in to BCV, I was told my room wasn't ready and I had to wait for it, no option of any other room. But when I got my room, it didn't meet my view request (thanks for the map I got somewhere), it was pool view. I politely asked the CM about my written requested courtyard view, mentioned a room I'd once had, "I loved that kind of view", and I found out that that room had been available all along! So after wasting a wait of several hours, I happily went upstairs to a room that had been ready (but not offered to me) all along. And it met all my requests.

While we have not yet had a problem with the room-ready policy, I would prefer a pre-assigned room based on my requests, with priority given to when the reservation was made, rather than what time of day I check in.

That said, as long as our non-smoking for medical reasons request is met, I don't think I would get worked up about not getting other requests.

I don't make any requests. I do expect to get the view to match the amount of points I used. I don't consider ground floor back of slide or multiple port-a-potty views to be preferred, yet I was put in those rooms when paying preferred points. I was able to move the porta potty view room the next day. The back of slide view I had to live with.

I don't even mind waiting until 4:00 for my room. I do mind leaving Epcot after being told our room was ready, to spend 2 hours in the lobby at the Beach Club because it wasn't.
