I have never quite gotten this -- can someone help?

A room rate is posted at a per night rate, let's say $100.
Then, they say "price based on double occupancy."

What does that mean? I know they add on if more than 2 adults stay in the room. But is there a difference in the rate between 1 guest and 2 guests?

Example: I have been pricing rooms through EXPEDIA.COM (let's say, 6 nights @ $100/night). The quoted rate states, "average per person" ($600), then goes on to give a "total" price which is double the "per person" rate ($1200). I have been entering 1 adult, 1 child (age 7 - who isn't suppose to count as an adult, right?)

Just wondering if it's just a situation where the reservation system isn't programmed to handle the "number 1," or do you really have to pay for "double occupancy"????

...thinking about booking a "Mom & DS" trip at the end of the school year....

It's been my understanding that a room only rate is based on 2 in the room--On my solo trips to WDW, the room rate was the same
for just me, as when I was there with another person in the room........

I thought the only time you get per person rates was when it's a package, like tickets included, or air, etc. , so I can't figure out what Expedia is doing, either.......Unless they're quoting it that way so it seems like less....Like when you see the ads that say in big print: "From $199 for 3 days", then the small print at the bottom says per person, double occupancy...Which means the room was really $398 for 3 days...

Now I'm getting myself confused..
