We just put in an offer on DVC contract (resale) and the seller accepted the terms. So, now we wait for ROFR. But the waiting is killing me. How can I find out how many points it would be to stay in a regular room at WDW? Does anyone have a link? I'm just trying to get as much as information as I can right now. Thanks so much!

If by 'regular room', you mean a non-DVC resort, I don't believe they're posted. They are available on the member's site. If you post the resort you're interested in, and the dates, one of us can look up the point cost for you.

Just to prepare you for the sticker shock, you'll find that the cost per night is much, much higher at a non-DVC resort. Also, since you're trading out of the DVC system, there's a $95 exchange fee. Unless you have a lot of points on this contract that you'll need to use up, you'll get much better value for you points at a DVC resort.

A single night in a moderate is usually more than a single night in a studio. And a single night in a deluxe can be about what it might take for a single night in a two bedroom villa. And then they go up on the weekends, too.

Just checked the charts. For a deluxe, depending on the hotel and the time of year and the day of the week - anywhere from 37 points a night to 188 points a night. For the moderates - from 17 -47 a night. And these are the 2009 points charts. 2010 will be different.

Thanks, I found the information in the stuff I was sent from the Timeshare Store. I would only book at a non-DVC resort as a last resort. The contract we bought has all points from 08 and if I can't find accomidations at a DVC resort, I will panic.....and maybe have to book a non-DVC if available.....So, does this make sense to anyone else?????

Keep in mind once you book at a non-DVC resort, the points become reservation points and cannot be then used at a DVC resort if it becomes available or you change your mind. Also, anytime you make a change there is another $95 fee.

Juneis UY. I'm so new to this. The (hopeful) plan is to book either a DVC studio or 1 bedroom as soon as we close and get into the system. I'm hoping that is May??? But, if absolutely nothing is available should we 1) waitlist or
2) make cash reservation or 3)pay with points in a non DVC room. I would much prefer to use the points on a DVC unit as we have the banked 2008 points to use. But, if nothing is available then I guess I need a new plan.

Sorry, you won't be able to use those UY 08 points for a non-DVC stay because you are in the last four months of your UY. You have to make that reservation before four months out. You can stay during the last four months of the UY, but not make a reservation during the last four months.

I looks like if you can't make a DVC reservation for May, you will lose those UY08 points.

Just reread your post. If they are banked 08 points, you won't be able to use them until Jun 1 09. But if they were Jun 07 points that were banked or Jun 08 points that were not banked. You could only use them at a DVC resort by May 31, 2009.

OK, now I think I am confusing myself! The contract comes with all 08 points that were banked and then also all 09 points. So, if everything goes through I could make a reservation in May 09 for October 09 using the banked 08 points? Please help me understand....

Yes, you can do that. I think the previous poster was referring to your June use year, if your 08 points had NOT been banked, then you would have had to use them for a DVC stay prior to June 1, 2009. You can not bank points, or reserve a non-DVC room on points during the last 4 months of your use year. You can stay at a non-DVC resort on points during the last 4 months, but the reservation would need to be made prior to that.

Welcome home in advance.
I think that you have received the correct answers and you are truly lucky that the seller banked the '08 points.
October is a pretty easy month to book unless you want an Epcot DVC resort ( Boardwalk or Beach Club). Those are long gone I suspect because of the Food and Wine Fest at Epcot.
SSR is always a good option and the new Kidani section of AKL will be open then too.
