Smooth ceilings are the best!
Think of it as your fifth wall!
If you're doing a pale lime on the walls, try a pale lavender on the ceiling, with a crisp white crown moulding in between. If you don't like lavender, try the palest turquoise blue you can find. Remember, blue really intensifies, so go several shades lighter than you think you want. The secret to a good ceiling color is picking a shade much lighter and subtler than you think you want because the color really intensifies on the ceiling.
If you don't have crown moulding to paint crisp white, mask off the last six inches of the wall to the ceiling and paint it a bright white with maybe a dark lime edging of about 1". You can do this with masking tape.
We did our master bedroom in "honeydew" by american tradition, which is a crip apple/lime green, with a white trim. It rocks! We're installing can lights in the smooth ceiling, so it's just white right now.
