Right now I have POP booked for August with 25% off pin. I'm waiting to see if free dining will be announced. If FD isn't announced can I add dining and make my room only pin a package??? Thanks

Yes. You can add any dining plan to your resort reservation I think up to three days before you arrive.

yes, but before you can add the dining plan, you have to first add tickets...

As the others have stated, you can switch to a package by adding tickets and dining, with dining added no later than 3 days prior to arrival. But keep in mind that doing this will require the room only ressie to be cancelled and all money refunded and then a package booked, requiring either full payment (if within 45 days of arrival) or a new $200 deposit (with the balance due 45 days prior to arrival), as money paid cannot be transferred between room only and package reservations.

If you cancel the room only ressie to make it a package wont you lose your 25% off PIN?

No, it shouldn't effect the pin. If the pin is still valid or doesn't have an expiration date, a regular reservation CM should be able to do the change; otherwise, guest services will have to do it so the discount isn't lost ;).

They call it "room only" so that people will understand that the discount is on the room portion only of a package, not on the tickets or dining plan. But you can still turn the reservation into a package.

But only if the PIN is still valid, right? If the room-only reservation is cancelled and a whole new package reservation is made, the PIN would have to be valid in order to get the discount on the new reservation, right?

It depends if there is a package version of the PIN.
If it happened to be a PIN only for room only bookings, then there would be an issue.
The room only res funds can be transferred to a WDTC package res -- IF the funds were paid by check.
Any other type of payment, and the deposit for the room only res will have to be refunded, and the package paid following the WDTC policy.

To me it seems more of a hassle to go the room only and convert to package route, if the guest knows they want a package in the end.

If the PIN is still valid, a regular CM can change the reservation. If the dates for the PIN have passed, Guest Services can resolve the issue to keep the discount for the room portion of the package.

Can you tell me if I'm understanding you correctly.....I had a room only ressie booked for 6 nights standardview BC for Aug. Price for the room is $1370. I can make that a package by adding tickets to that $1370 and I won't lose the room discount?? And I could add the dining plan too if I want?? Sorry, it's late here!!!!!

that is correct, as long as the PIN code booking timeframe has not expired or the PIN is "limited" (which typically they are not)... you will, however, pay full price for the tix and dining plan...

btw, that's a great discount... almost $1,000 savings!

So let me make sure I understand this. I dont have to change my room only to a package right now?? I can wait to see if they offer free dining and if they dont I can add tics and dining to my room only as long as it is 3 days prior to my arrival???

no, that is incorrect...
if you opt for the free dining (assuming it's re-offered) you would not be able to combine that with pin code room discount... it's one deal or the other, not both...

if you opt to add paid dining (and tickets) to your current room only pin code reservation, you need to do that before the pin code booking window closes... the actual date i do not know as it varies...

i would make a decision and stick with it... do the math on pin code vs free dining (it depends on the level of resort and number of people and their ages as to which deal will benefit your family)

Guest Services can usually change your room-only reservation to a package (paid) even if the PIN booking window has expired.

Please note the USUALLY in my response. If you are set on having the dining plan, book it before your PIN expires.

This is what I was thinking as soon as I read the thread.

It may be possible to add dining later and still keep the discount. But I wouldn't bet my vacation on it.

If you plan on purchasing park tickets and/or the dining plan through Disney, change your reservation to a package before your PIN expires.

So, let's say that today I book a room only reservation with a PIN code. And then I go ahead and add tickets and dining at full price because my code expires today.

And in two weeks, Free Dining comes out. I can then switch to free dining (assuming availablity), and not lose my deposit? Correct?

Free dining is definitely a better savings for us because we have older children...but, I don't want to end up with no discount if free dining does not come out.

Yes, you would keep the same reservation number with your original deposit but the discount code would be changed from "room discount" to "free dining". I've done that a few times, myself. :) Do keep in mind that, should free dining be announced, pounce on it and call to have your reservation changed ASAP because some of the resorts (POP) sell out of FD promo rooms quickly.

I was able to change my room only BWI reservation (booked under PIN that expired 2/28) to add a day, add tickets, and add dining today while keeping the original 40% PIN discount on the room rate. The CM did have to get GS on the phone to complete the changes.

Last week, I tried to convert to a package and the CM told me that I would have to cancel the trip and lose the PIN discount. When I mentioned that today, the CM apologized and said that despite the extensive training they receive, sometimes there are mistakes. She even wanted the name of the person (which I didn't provide)! The only reason I tried again was because I wanted to add one day to the trip -- it was actually the CM who asked me why I didn't have tickets or dining (good upselling on her part, lol).

When I booked the trip on 2/28, the CM also told me she couldn't see the remaining days on my no expiry tickets (long story short, I had not clearly noted how many days I had remaining on my paperwork -- thought it was 3 but needed to validate). That was why I didn't book a package to start. However when I called the ticketing number, they were able to confirm how many park entries I had made & how many days I had added when I upgraded to no expiry which combined with my notes, gave me what I needed.

The CM must have thought I was crazy -- I kept saying, 'don't change anything if it will lose the ressie or the discount!'. :)

ETA: They did refund the room only deposit, took a package deposit, and reviewed the payment & cancellation terms (which are less favorable than the room only terms as described above in this thread).
