Room only discount question!

If I book a room only reservation for 2013 when the rates come out this week, will I be able to apply a discount to it later? Assuming that they offer one, of course! Which I really hope they do. Or should I just wait forever and book it when the discount hopefully does come out?

I also have a room only booked and we were told we could modify the reservation if/when discounts came out. This could mena that you have to cancel the existing reservation and re-book though.

Imo if there is a particular room you want, book it then add the discount if one becomes available. Otherwise if no particular room in mind, then you could wait.

They release only a certain number of rooms at each resort for each discount. For that matter, some discounts may not even be available at all resorts for all dates. I know the past two years I have not been able to use certain discounts at POFQ, even though I've called the morning discounts first come out. In fact, I wanted to use a bounceback for POFQ this past May and couldn't get it, so had to switch resorts. Once year the only standard room I could get at a moderate for a certain discount was at CBR. Every time discounts come out someone posts about having to switch from a reservation they already made at Pop to one of the All Stars, because the deal isn't available at Pop for their particular dates.

Another reason you might have to cancel and rebook is if you have a room only res and a package offer (e.g. free dining) comes out. You can't modify a room only to a package or vice versa.

If you are going regardless of whether or not a discount comes out, then I would book now to make sure you get the resort/room type you want. Otherwise, if your trip is dependent on a discount of some sort, I would wait to see what (if any) discount comes out for your dates. Having a reservation already in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied as there has to be availability at that resort under the promo in order to get the discount. As a pp said, Disney releases discounts to fill rooms and not all resorts/room types are always offered. If a particular resort is at or near capacity, Disney sees no need to offer a discount on that particular resort.
