Room only discount code club

I know this is a thread about a room only discount, but if I might ask a question or two about DDP and hopefully confirmation that we're doing the right thing. We have never done the DP and this is why: 1) Most mornings, we eat breakfast in the room, i.e. pop tarts, cereal and milk, DH's oatmeal! Occasionally, DD and I will go to the quick service counter and get a sweet roll or something small like that. 2) We eat mostly counter meals, but say over a seven day trip we'll eat three table service meals. 3) We usually spend one day offsite and go to the beach. So all that said, would you agree that we're better off not doing the DDP? As I mentioned, we don't do all counter, but we also don't eat sit down once a day.

Then on another note, I just called Disney to ask if we have a PIN. We do not :confused3. But she did confirm all my information, which was correct. What are the odds that a PIN will magically appear today? Not likely, but a girl can dream. We have never gotten a PIN and we have been going yearly or so for the past 17 years. Maybe that's the problem; they know we're coming PIN or not.

I think if you're talking about paying out of pocket for the dining plan, then it's definitely not in your best interest to do it. I find that you really have to research and plan your ADRs to really get the most out of it.

For our family, the DDP saves us a ton - the QSP does not. I went through several of the restaurants we want to try and priced out what it would cost us to eat there and we ended up breaking even after the 4th table service. Of course, we have a teenage boy and we all like to eat!:rotfl:

I really think it depends on the family on whether OOP or DDP work. The other big plus for us is that it is all paid for well in advance and we don't have to worry about having the money on hand while there. ;)

We used the DDP back in March. Just me and the DW. We upgraded to the Dlx as well. We wanted to do a Dining through Disney theme. We had some fantastic food I will say that.

Going back after Thanksgiving with a 35% off rate. Great deal to stay at CS again. We loved it there. However, if a 40% shows up, we will take that as well!

We're going the last week of September for 4 nights. Right now I'm booked off-site as a backup plan, but I was wondering about a better on-site room rate.

I'm hoping to get us back to CBR, and I know there's a current special on those rooms. The only trick is that I want a king-size bed, not two double beds (just wife and I), and by the time I add a king-size bed, it wipes out whatever current discount there is.

So, would it be better to go ahead and book that now before the offer runs out on August 13th, or do I take my chances that a bigger discount is on its way for that time period, knowing I still have an off-site hotel booked just in case?

Is it possible to make a resort reservation with the free dining package and then cancel the entire package if a room-only discount code later becomes available?

We would definitely save more $ with a room-only discount code than with FD since we do not eat that much, but obviously prefer to have the package if the room-only discount does not become available! Given that we are traveling Dec 9-13, how likely do you think it is that a 30-40% room-only discount code will not be offered?

Thanks!

I am waiting for a room only discount also...We have been to the parks several times in the past and never once got anything, dinning ,tickets ,not even a room discount..Maybe this will be our good year May 2012.

I would like to know the answer to this as well. We are going Oct.24 - Nov.3. Booked at ASMo for now....Will get FD *when* it comes out. However if a room only comes out for my dates- I would change to AKL.
Wish we could have a deluxe resort and free QSDP!!:)

I've been reading these boards for over a year and a half - started last year while planning our Jan/Feb 2011 trip and now planning another for the same time next year. First time posting!

We're hoping for a room discount, too. We stayed at WL for 7 days last year and got 40% (it was either that or FD at the time I believe) and felt like it was soooo reasonable.

Working with my TA right now - w/o discounts at all and we'd be paying $800 more. Honestly I'd take FD for Value Season in 2012 if it would save me $ but would obviously rather have the room discount.

I'm a little worried because the offer that came out last year came on 8/16 and it as 40% off deluxe or Free Dining.

We'd really like to stay at WL again and would hate to move to a mod!!!

FYI...got a 20% PIN in the mail with the game-on theme. We're going 10/15-10/22 (not a black out according to CM), staying at POP and each night is included in our discount. Free Dining just doesn't come out as a cost savings for us!

Of course! As long as you follow the cancellation policies you can have whatever reservations you want. I had 4 separate reservations once for one trip, and once we decided what was the best deal we picked one and I cancelled the rest (well before the 45 day mark). The CM on the phone was funny, saying "step away from the computer!" when she saw all the ones I had made.

Thanks! Now if I could just make up my mind:confused3

My wife and I have plans for the 15-22 also. I was dejected that the rumor of free dining blacked out those dates. But you say the CM says they arent blacked out. I don't know what to believe anymore. Hoping for the best though.

:goodvibes

I think she means they're not blacked out for her PIN code. Every discount comes with its own blackouts. And they are not always the same.

30% off across the board with a pin ... hmmm... 2 ways to view that...

way 1) pins are out there but AP and GP rats will not be as good

way 2) pins are out there, there's something coming at least?

They always give PINS. No reason to think it means less GP discounts. I refuse to worry; the discounts will come through.

Btw, if you're not watching the other thread -- some people have just booked their FD. Though it doesn't officially open until tomorrow and most CMs are just hinting that people should call back then. popcorn::

Waiting for a room discount too. We're going 10/12-10/17 so blacked out of FD (we'll see if that's true or not), but waiting to see if a room discount would fall on our dates!

Hi,

I am joining in on the room only discount thread. The FD thread dates for 2012 have depressed me.:sad1: We need something for the middle of June. We will still go but it is so much easier to sell to DH when there is a discount. At least this thread can keep my hopes alive for a while.:goodvibes

I booked our January stay with the AAA discount but I am hoping a better room only discount will come out. We have no interest in the free dining since we already have our park hopper tickets.

I"m also hoping for a room only discount. Normally we'd be happy with the FD and we're checking in on January 8 so no problem there(as long as the Poly qualifies) but we're staying off property first so buying 2 sets of tickets off-sets any cost saving of free dining for 3 nights. We're booked right now at a AAA rate, so atleast we're saving $200. It's something...
And a note about pin codes, FWIW. We went last January, stayed on DVC points that I bought from my SIL. My in laws decided they wanted to go, asked me to call and price a room for them at AKL where we were staying. CM tells me I have a PIN code. They never mailed it to me. I had no idea. So it's definitely worth calling and asking about. I asked when I made my Poly reservation last week and the CM said it was a "bit early" for PIN codes.
Good luck to everyone, hope it all works out for you!
