room only discount and dining plan?

if i book a room only discount room, can i then purchase the dining plan or is any dining plan purchase considered a package?

we won't need park tickets, but would buy 1 day 1 park tickets per person if they were required to purchase the dining plan.

you can purchase the dining plan but you do need to get at least the 1 day park ticket per person.

I think if you book the room only discount, and then later decide to turn it into a package, they will cancel your original reservation and rebook your package at the going rates. You will loose your room discount as it was not intended to be a part of a package.

You can get a room discount on a package with the Dining plan and at least a one day park ticket.

You will only lose the room discount if your package is for FREE dining, because Disney will only allow one discount per package. So it's either the room discount or the Free dining. If you're paying for the Dining Plan you can keep the room discount.

Many people choose to pay for the dining plan, even during the Free Dining offers, because they can save more money using a room discount (especially if you're staying in a deluxe resort and have a 30-40% room discount this will often work out to greater savings than free dining.)

Only DVC members staying on points are exempt from the package booking requirement to get the dining plan.

Annual passholders may purchase a room/dining package without tickets.

Everyone else must purchase a package that includes at least a one-day base ticket for everyone in their party age 3 and over.

If you have a discount that applies to a package as well as a room-only reservation, you will be able to apply the discount to the package. If you have a discount that is not applicable to a package, you'll lose the discount when you book the package. If you book free dining, that discount is not combinable with a room discount. Free dining is available only with rack rate room/tickets packages.
