So, we very rarely used the Do Not Disturb sign previously. Do we now use the Room Occupied sign the ENTIRE time we are in the room (even sleeping in the evening) or only if we are there during regular business hours and we don't want to be disturbed? Like if we are in the room 9:00-5:00 pm and don't want to be disturbed, or from the moment we get back to the room until we leave the room again?

The sign won’t ensure you’re not disturbed at all. Just tells them you’re there there.

If you never used the dnd sign i’m not sure why you would want to use the less useful sign. :)

We rarely used a Do Not Disturb sign either.
We also rarely use the Room Occupied sign.
And we've rarely been bothered.
So go figure

All the sign does is tell them you are in the room. You can use it or not, up to you. The sign won't tell them not to disturb you.

I only use it (same as DND) when I'm in the room and do not want to be disturbed (sleeping, resting, bathing, etc...) Unfortunately, the new signs don't exactly set expectations very high.

In the past, on my solo trips I would leave the DND sign out all the time. I could pick up after myself and reuse towels and save $5/day in tips. When I'm there with family, the sign would only go up during our afternoon naps if Mousekeeping hadn't come by yet and we didn't want to be disturbed. We haven't stayed since the new signs were rolled out, but we'll use them the same way. And when I'm in my room, I always lock the deadbolt and flip the latch so no one can just walk right in.

We will be traveling with my partners mother this May. She will be napping in the afternoon for sure. Will these signs ensure she is not disturbed?

We never used the old DND sign either. We DID use the flip latch and will continue to use it. This will prevent anyone from walking in on us during our midday naps.

. They will knock, wait for you to open the door and I assume come in if you don’t answer. I’ve heard that some people were napping and the “room checker” came in the room anyway.

Ok, this is helpful. So just use the chain and not worry about using the new sign. And assume they will knock and come in at the most inopportune time.

Personally, I would (do and plan to) use the sign and the flip bar. And not be surprised if they knock if they are by the room at that particular time, be it the cleaning time or some other reason.

No. They just alert that someone is in the room. Housekeeping or security may still knock on the door.

Not at all. That just means that they will knock. Sometimes repeatedly until someone answers.

Make sure that you put the bar across the door. That way they can't just walk in on you.

Oh dear. That is too bad. I was hoping she could take a nap in the afternoons to increase the chance she can make it out to dinner. I hope they will come in the mornings

Thank you all, I will make sure she understands.

We rarely used the sign prior to the policy change and don't use it much now either. I think the only time I'd put the sign on the door is if we were all trying to nap but as you know they still can come and bug you, doesn't mean they won't. We are not room dwellers so if we're in the room, it's early AM and out the door and back late in the day.

In my opinion your best bet to not be disturbed for an afternoon nap would be to not opt out of house keeping (if offered), and to be out of the room fairly early.

We were lucky(?) enough to have them knock on the door very early. They only knocked in the afternoon, once.

(They knocked on our door, quite regularly before 9am.)
