Room not ready?

Okay, that's extreme and does deserve some type of consideration.

And were you ok with that?!? I would have been livid. What if you wanted to sleep early? Did they charge you full rate?!?

To be fair we were at HS until 9:30, but had never received the room ready text. Went to the front desk and they acted like they didn't know we were even supposed to be staying there. We didn't get the room until almost 10:30. They gave us zero direction, so we had to wander around in the dark a bit, too. Then they didn't have our bags up until almost 11pm. AND THEN we had a fridge that reeked of mildew.

It didn't occur to me to ask for anything. We just wanted to go to bed. I will never stay there again, though.

If we had gotten there earlier we would have been given a room earlier I would hope. I still think it was absurd.

This really sounds like our situation last month at POFQ, All you can do at a Disney Resort is make the best of it, you would not have received anything besides "I am really sorry". Our situation last month at POFQ was similar and we are actually still trying to correct issues that were caused by our originally assigned room never being "marked as ready".

(1) You'll have to ask the person who experienced it. Ten PM is extreme in a way that 4, 5, even 6 are not.
(2) Understandable. What would being livid have gotten you?

sorry must have hit the wrong button, I though I was responding to OP

But, they will actually check-in people well before 3 and have bell services hold the luggage. I've done check-in at 10am before. So, why give people a check-in time at all? Instead just say that they try to have the rooms available as quickly as possible, usually mid-afternoon, but that you are welcome to check in at anytime day-of and have bell services hold your luggage until the room is ready. Seems odd to give people a time at all if they aren't going to honor it. It just sets up expectations to be broken.

Also, at our stay at Disneyland Resort, we checked-in at 3. The CM said that our room wasn't ready. But then she asked if we would mind having a different room. We didn't mind at all. So she went into their open inventory and got us into a room immediately. Obviously if the hotel is full this wouldn't work. But a polite request to move to an open room never hurts.

There are also the inconsiderate guests who don't think the 11AM check out time applies to them. Or they leave a total disaster in the room they are vacating that takes a lot longer and more staff to clean than it is supposed to take. Both of these situations could cause your room being ready later than usual. We are DVC and one time we weren't able to get into our villa until almost 6PM. Both of the situations I mentioned took place in this case. It was New Year's Day, they had had a big party the night before and decided they didn't want to leave at 11. When they finally got them out of the villa around 4:30, it took a staff of five to clean up the mess left behind.

My DVC 2 BR Villa wasn't ready until 5 PM once. We were tired so we just hung around the lobby until we got the notification that it was ready. I figured that the desk staff would keep checking for us as they saw us linger - and they did ;)

What is the definition of a "night" for points? Is there a time where you can successfully argue with them that your points for that day\night were devalued because of the time you got your villa?

Just curious......

Control. Common sense. Allowing time for guests to check out and the rooms to be cleaned. Why does any hotel have an official check-in time?

Letting guests check in ear!y is a courtesy and a time-saver. Check-in starts at, or is after, a posted time. Rooms shouldn't be expected to be available prior to that time, but it's also physically impossible to check in potentially 400-1,000 guests at a given instant.

Q. What time is Check-In and Check-Out at Disney Vacation Club Resorts?
A. Check-In is after 4:00 PM (holding mine) (please notify Member Services if you're planning a late arrival), and Check-Out is by 11:00 AM.

I’m putting most of that blame on myself; I helped set the trip up and it’s been quite some time since I have stayed at DisneyWorld; still getting the hang of magic bands, fast pass plus, etc.

They did eventually get their room a little after 7pm.

Had you done online checkin for them? That process requires that a PIN be set at that time.

It was 10pm before our room was ready at POR in 2015. Not a great way to start there.

Most arrival days were are still at a park, drinkin beer on the Boardwalk or listening to Yeehaa Bob at 10pm. That is excessive though. With kids I would not be happy.

Boy do I miss the days where they used to drive you in a golf cart to your room. I've wandered around in the dark at many resorts, trying to find my room. It is not fun.

We all know that check in does NOT start at 3pm any more. It starts as rooms are released by housekeeping. That's why they added the box for you to check that says if a room becomes available earlier and does not match your room requests, you'd rather have any room earlier.
I've been lucky to get into my room before 11am my last 3 visits. Once I got my room ready on the ME bus before I arrived at 9am!

But 2 weeks ago, at BLT, they screwed up. We drove 24 hours to arrive 9am and I had checked the box to accept any room available and entered that I would arrive early. I got a text message saying that my rooms is NOT ready yet. We went off to the MK and had lunch and started to get really tired about 1pm and headed back hoping the room would be ready soon. We camped in the lobby of BLT. They checked and said sorry not ready. I watched 5 buses of ME unload and dozens of families sent to their rooms, all ready to check in. Clearly the early arrival thing wasn't working. Family went to find someone where lay down. I stayed in the lobby.

SOme suits come to the lobby and are having a discussion about some issue. I hear one say "I put all the one bedrooms on hold until we figure it out."

Concierge sees me again at 5 they checked again. Frown. Call to somewhere. Quiet discussion out of my earshot.

My room ready text messages arrives.

"Good news, your room is ready!"

Fishy.

On the upside we had a room with a great view. Floor 12, 8234, One bedroom looking over the back side of the main building, the main pool area, marina, and 7 seas lagoon off to my right. I could see 4 performances of the Electric Water Pageant!

I have had my room be ready as early as noon...and I was still 2 hours away from my resort (darn!)...but most times it has been ready between 3:00 and 4:00. My next trip is in 3 weeks so it will be interesting to see what time it's ready. No big deal though since I plan on being at the Park til 10p.m.

My son just checked into CBR, about 45 minutes after the check in time, and was told it’s not ready. Is this common? They did offer to hold on to his luggage so he can go to the parks. I thought all the rooms had to be available by 3pm, or am I mistaken? Thanks
Yeah they run on their own schedule. Don’t count on your room being ready by three.

No, check in starts at 3. Giving guests earlier access is a convenience for both parties. You can check in online 60 days in advance. It doesn't mean the room is ready.

The early arrival thing is, again, a convenience for both parties, and a courtesy to the guest.

i don't see how it's fishy. If you quoted the person accurately, there was a current issue. Maybe they figured it out by 5 :confused3
