Room not ready?

My son just checked into CBR, about 45 minutes after the check in time, and was told it’s not ready. Is this common? They did offer to hold on to his luggage so he can go to the parks. I thought all the rooms had to be available by 3pm, or am I mistaken? Thanks

We've had that happen a few times. Very disappointing. Especially on a short stay we had at AOA. Our room was about 2 hrs. late, around 5pm. I think that's pretty poor service.

Yup, we have gotten a room as late as 6:30pm (always checking in on time or early). I know some might say that I should not expect 3pm to be a guarantee, but it's poor service to not get a room at check-in time. Sometimes such a thing is unavoidable in which case every decent hotel gives the affected guest(s) something for their inconvenience, such as a food/beverage credit. Disney does not generally do this, in my experience.

There are also the inconsiderate guests who don't think the 11AM check out time applies to them. Or they leave a total disaster in the room they are vacating that takes a lot longer and more staff to clean than it is supposed to take. Both of these situations could cause your room being ready later than usual. We are DVC and one time we weren't able to get into our villa until almost 6PM. Both of the situations I mentioned took place in this case. It was New Year's Day, they had had a big party the night before and decided they didn't want to leave at 11. When they finally got them out of the villa around 4:30, it took a staff of five to clean up the mess left behind.

How awful. I can’t believe how rude some people are. I just don’t get that kind of mentality

Last month at POFQ our room was actually never ready. Finally around 8PM we decided to head back to the resort and see what was going on as we were exhausted from traveling. The front desk couldn’t explain why our assigned room was never marked as ready, so after about 45 minutes and a call to the back office We got assigned to another room, besides giving up our requests this also caused other issues with our reservation.

Thanks for the replies. It’s still not ready and now they want to use dining credits but they don’t have a pin (not sure why the hotel didn’t have them set it when they got there)... so, after being on the phone, I was told they need to go to guest relations and set their pin.... I just wish this was easier. Is there a direct line to CBR?

Can they set their PIN in MDE? That’s how I set mine.

I went into MDE and gave them PINs. I hope it works so they can use their dining credits; today was a long day of traveling for them!

No. No direct line to. CBR.
Why hadn’t they set up their pins before travel?

I’m putting most of that blame on myself; I helped set the trip up and it’s been quite some time since I have stayed at DisneyWorld; still getting the hang of magic bands, fast pass plus, etc.

They did eventually get their room a little after 7pm.

Check-in time is when check-in starts.

I know of no hotel that gives 'something's for a room not being ready at the beginning of check-in time.

It was 10pm before our room was ready at POR in 2015. Not a great way to start there.

They should have charged them for that extra night and given you the credit

(1) And were you ok with that?!? ,(2) I would have been livid. (3) What if you wanted to sleep early? Did they charge you full rate?!?
(1) You'll have to ask the person who experienced it. Ten PM is extreme in a way that 4, 5, even 6 are not.
(2) Understandable. What would being livid have gotten you?
