Room Noise - Issue for you?

We just returned from a week at OKW and I must say this was the quietest room we have had yet (Bldg 21, Room 2125).

Not sure if we were just lucky and had considerate neighbors, but it was great. We had a 1 Bedroom, and I believe our Bldg only had 4 units. We were on the top floor.

I will admit that the other resorts (SSR, BWV) I stayed at as a DVC member - the noise can get to me sometimes. I am no scrooge, and I know people/families are there to have fun. SSR seems to have very noisy hallways, not sure if it is just the way they are built, but it seems to amplify any talking etc... Incidental stuff like toilets flushing, doors slamming - this happens anywhere.

Inconsiderate neighbors - this is another matter all together. One stay we had a couple (luckily only two nights) who were just rude and loud. They always came in after midnight, cranked the TV, and talked above the TV. I never called about them, but they were very loud.

It does seem to me that the sound proofing is not the best at the hotels (most hotels for that matter). Any thoughts from you guys on this?

Having the top floor at OKW is always a good idea. Nothing worse than the kids in the room above you sounding like a herd of cattle pounding back and forth all night.
Sound "proofing" at most hotels simply dosen't exist. Even good sound "conditioning" is hard to come by. Mostly it's the luck of the draw as to who your "neighbors" might be.

I think what makes the biggest diffence is whether the building (floors especially) is made of concrete or wood. I know the beach resorts are concrete and certainly KTR will be, but I don't know about the others. Are they concrete?

A couple years ago we spent the weekend at an older Fairfield resort that was definitely made of wood and you could hear
much too much.

1st trip home to WL while walking all the way down the hallway to the last room, we could hear the increasing wail of a baby ; realized they were next door to us.

Once we got inside & shut the door, couldn't hear anything

Funny--from reading the boards I've seen messages saying that it is actually quieter at SSR than other resorts (other than in Paddocks if you're across from the fire station) because of exterior hallways. Have read about noise complaints about AKV and WL--presumably because they have "interior" hallways. I try to shut out noise no matter where I am--the only time I have issues is if it is a repetitive sound (years ago lived in an apartment and swore the kid upstairs was using a pogo stick--finally had to say something and it stopped!)

I just make sure to take my white noise machine with me wherever I go. I never hear neighbors. Now, my husband's snoring is another issue entirely!

I was surprised at how little soundproofing there is between the 1BR and attached studio at OKW. Even conversations at "normal level" were clearly audible. Turning the air handling system to "always on" from "auto fan" helped a lot.

Even with noisy kids above, we find OKW to be much more quiet than AKV has been this week. There seems to be significant hallway noise at AKV, and since hallways are absent at OKW, it is very quiet.

I've been very impressed with the sound proofing. That was very important for us in purchasing as my wife is a very light sleeper. That being said, I've only stayed at BCV and SSR. I definitely could hear the hallways traffic at BCV, but even then it was very muted. SSR has been very quiet. Our room during New Years faced the NY Eve pool party. With the balcony doors open we could hear everything down at the pool, even play along with the DJ quizzes. With the balcony door shut, we heard nothing. Impressive. I remember growing up staying in condos and hotels where you could hear people in the room next door snoring. I think a lot has to do with the construction quality and a lot has to do with the layouts that does not provide a direct line for noise from the hallways into where the beds are.

SSR is very quiet(and I've stayed there over Thanksgiving).

I've stayed at the Marriott Manor Club in Williamsburg and I've been on 2nd floor units at DVC and never could hear the people walking around above me, but at MMC you could hear the people walking around above us.

I'll be calling and making a request when we visit Marriott Summitwatch in Park City this summer just to be on the safe side.

I've stayed at the Homestead in Glen Arbor, MI and the units in our area were side by side and you couldn't hear anything from your neighbors there(and they are older units late 1970's-early 1980's)

I've stayed in all of the DVC resorts except Hilton Head. The only problems I've ever had were in the studios at OKW and Vero Beach. Their floor plans are very similar. I could hear every little sound. Just normal conversation voices. I've stayed in the 2 BR and didn't hear a sound.

Several weeks ago we were at BWV Studio/Boardwalk view. Every few minutes I would hear the phone ringing from the people in the next room...it starting making me crazy....who goes on vacation and has someone calling them continuously in the hotel room??

My husband called me out to the balcony and pointed...there on the boardwalk (right below us) was the carnival game that you shoot water at a target to fill a balloon...when someone wins...the bell rings! Sounded just like a telephone! He still laughs at me about this Thankfully they shut it down at 11 pm.

The only resort we have had a problem with is OKW. We were in bldg 24 next to a GV. The echo with their hardwood floor was terrible. The people were just doing normal things but I heard everything!! I would request not to be next to a GV there. Our Master Bedroom was next to their living area. I heard every chair move all night long~ after 12mn.

I have stayed at Saratoga Springs a total of 8 times now and have never had a single issue with noise. I am a light sleeper and I didn't have any problems there! I've had rooms in the Springs, Carousel, Paddock, and Grandstand.

I stayed at OKW last year for spring break and I think I must have gotten one of the worst rooms there. We were put in building 42, in the Turtle Pond section of the resort, right across from that pool. We were RIGHT on the road and heard noise from cars and trucks ALL NIGHT LONG. We also heard people screaming out at the pool until 1 or 2am, which we let front desk know about. I am fine about people using the pool until that time, but there was some serious noise going on out there. Finally, we were the studio portion of a 2 bedroom lock-off and the people in the 1 bedroom next to us were very noisy. Even if they were not being loud themselves, it was still quite easy to hear everything that was going on in their room.

We also had noise issues on our most recent trip to AKV. We were on the Uzima Savanna. The noise from the hallways was unbelievable. From early on in the morning, we could hear what seemed like the smallest noise outside our room. It didn't help that the door did not meet the floor and there was a space that let the noise in. I was constantly being woken up. I have to say that when a week later, we spent a night in a standard view studio, which was right off the lobby (literally, we walked out our door and looked over the balcony at the lobby), it was much quieter somehow, even though there is much more traffic in the lobby.
