How do the park attendants at the rides know if your card is good for that day and not another? Is there a date on the front of the card?

How early can you check in to get the card key to use at the park? Not so much concerned about getting in the room early but would like to have the FOTL access as early as posslble.

Also, when you check out, do you get to keep the card so that you can use till closing that day? Are they nice cards with pictures on them that would be nice keepsakes?

Thanks all ...

WE haven't been to US for a couple years, but when we were there, our room key had dates on them.
You can get your room key for FOTL as early as you want even if your room is not ready.
Yes....keep your key after you check out so you can use it for FOTL all that day.

Yes the cards do have dates on them and they do check the dates when going on the FOTL. You can sue the FOTL access till park closing on your check out date, even if you have checked out of the resort. They are just plain white cards with your name, resort and check in and check out dates on them. There is a magnetic strip on the back for charging to your room.

I am looking at my Portofino card from a few months ago.

The cards are the size of a credit card.

The Portofino's is white, the last time we stayed at RPR it was a light sort-of beige. However, since it has been a few years since we stayed there, I don't know if the color has changed at all. Have no idea what color HRH's are.

In the background, there is a faint picture of the hotel's logo.

In large black letters, the card will have your dates of stay. Following that will be an A or a C to indicate adult or child. If you have charging privileges added to the card, it will have a star after the A or C.

On the next line, in a slightly smaller font, your name is printed. Mine also has a 2/3 with a double star on it after my name. I have no idea what this is, but I am assuming, since they gave me both keys to the bedrooms and an extra set of keys to the parlor, that this is key 2 out of 3 that they printed in my name.

Under your name is a 14 digit code.

On the top of the card in small font are parking instructions, and at the bottom of the card is "Present this key card for access to the Universal Express entrance at each attraction."

Ok - WAAAY more info than you wanted, right?

You can check in as early as you want. Many people check-in before opening so as to be able to be at the gates when they open.

If your room is not ready, you can leave your luggage with the bellhop. Leave a cell-phone number with the front desk and they will call you when your room is ready. (sometimes). Otherwise, just call the front desk yourself and see if your room is ready. At that time, they will give you your room number. No need to stop at the front desk for new keys, as the ones they gave you earlier will now be activated to open the door of the room number they gave you. (usually.) Then call down to the bellhop and they will bring your luggage up.

When you check out, keep the keys. You can do the opposite. Checkout and leave the luggage again with the bellhop. You can use the keys until the parks close on the day of check-out. You can also use the facilities at the hotel until then. If you are a Loews member, you can use the fitness baths to freshen up.

Then, when you are ready, collect your luggage and you are on your way.

While not especially attractive, the keys do make good souvenirs if you like to scrapbook, as they do have your name and the dates of your stay on them.

If you made it this far, you get an "A" in Universal Key Cards 101

To add to goofy!'s "Room Card 101" course: If you are lucky enough to have a "1" next to that "A" or "C" then that means you are a VIP. What does that get you? I have yet to learn for sure, but I have found that we've received an extra gift from the staff whenever we've had that "1." So, if your card has "A 1 *" after your name, that means you're a VIP adult with charging privileges.

I had to run go check my card to see, and yes, I had the A 1* on mine. Maybe thats why the manager (or whoever it was) came out and introduced themselves when I checked in? I am only Gold tho, and I didnt get any extra gifts. Unless you count 2 newspapers. theres 2 stars after my name too **, wonder if that means anything?

stars means you are a good girl.

 really you ask.....

nah, it means you are special........jk
