OK, I just read the threat Lost Key -- about fear of losing your room key with charging rights. Has anybody out there ever lost their key and had somebody run up charges on it?

My husband misplaced his room key on our trip last year. As soon as we realized it, we went to guest services. They cancelled out his room key immediately and issued him another room key. No problem.

So anybody else?

Bumping this up!!

Wanting to know this as well - I am not sure if I want to add the charging feature to our cards. We are trying not to use credit cards - I know I could earn some points with my Disney Visa and just pay off what we charged when we return - but I feel it might be too easy to splurge on things I might not buy if I just carried cash/debit card.

Do you guys use the charging feature - I sometimes feel a little out of control at WDW and wondered what you guys felt!!

DH has lost keys but no spending on it. Now because DS9 gets a key, we do not charge to the room. So, that settles that.

IMHO, if the charging feature is on the key and its lost, it might be treated just like a lost credit card. I'd immediately contact Disney about holding any future charges, and then the cc company regarding the loss.

I've always attached my Amex account for charging privileges; its just so much easier than dealing with cash or cc while we're out.

As for a kids room key, Disney doesn't allow charging privileges on a room key for a minor. Our kids keys have always clearly indicated no charging.

we always charge to the room key. I find that at Disney they are usually pretty good about checking the signature on the back of the card. So it would be tough for someone to fake my signature. I like the protection of linking it to a credit card as well. If something did get charged then I would not be liable for it.

You can designate which keys have charging privildges and which don't all room keys do not have to be the same. We've never lost a key can't help there.

We have never lost a key but kids room keys don't have charging priviledges on them. Even the adult keys you can designate which keys have charging priviledges and which ones don't.

While at AKL this summer we lost the room key in the swimming pool! It must have floated out of DS pocket, and when we were ready to go back up to our room we discovered that we did not have the key! We tried looking around the pool bottom, but it was dark and the AKL pool has a sandy brown color to the walls and floor to resemble a watering hole in the desert. Made for a tough search.

So, dripping wet, we trudged up to the lobby. If you've ever seen the AKL lobby you know it is quite elegant. There we were, sloshing around in our swimsuits, and we had to wait on line with all those checking in that night! I was so embarrassed. Anyhow, the CM cheerfully replaced our key and told us the other one is voided. I wonder if anyone ever found that key in the pool?

:flower:

My husband lost his once for a period of time - it was never found -- and they said we would not have been responsible for charges since you do sign the slip and it would not be his sginature.

Do you have to sign your card? On my credit and bank cards I always write "check ID" on them to ensure nobody uses them but me. Would this work at WDW?

Yes you can do that.

I did charging to the key when we were there in June. First of all I wore a lanyard from work that has and id holder. I found that this fit all of the room keys and park tickets and fast passes and all receipts. This was always around my neck and never worried about it. My DS(6) card had no charging privelages so when we went to the pool that was the room key we took with us. Never had a problem and will always use this service. Much better to lose a disney card then my actual cc which I might need for later on in the trip.

The last time we went we were able to choose who had charging privileges. Our oldest son was able to charge to the room.

Can you charge to your room key at vendor stands (ice cream only carts?)and counter service? I've never used this feature before.
