Room Key question

Again this year we will have 2 rooms ( POFQ). I seem to remember possibly that someone said ( after our trip) that they can key both rooms the same? Last year we had an issue because my mother was not staying in the room she was listed on the ressie for ( we moved everyone around..lol) so if she wanted to leave the park we had to jockey cards around. If, per say, we don't end up with connecting rooms ( didn't last year) is it indeed possible to make both rooms keyed the same?

We have had 2 scenarios with this:

2010, 2 connected rooms, all 1 ressie at Pop: all cards opened both doors.

2011, 2 connected rooms, 2 ressies at CBR: the key cards opened the door to the room they were assigned only, which wasnt a big deal it was me and 3 girlfriends in the 2 rooms and it was only a 5 day trip. If it was a family trip like the previous year it would have been an issue.

So I believe if they are all 1 ressie they all open all doors. BUT, even if they dont I believe if you ask they can key them that way (you could always just say your mom is going to be babysitting or something like that) or like they did on our recent cruise, just give an extra key card that just opens the other door.

Our keys have never opened both doors....which is kind of irritating considering we're one family with 2 rooms. I'll have to remember to ask that they be keyed to open both. One year when we had to book it as 2 separate reservations (odd situation with 2 different discounts) our dining credits and everything were split. Now that year was confusing LOL

. . . I'll have to remember to ask that they be keyed to open both . . .

1) You cannot request keys to open both rooms,
2) The Front Desk does not have the ability to set these. *
3) If you have CONNECTING rooms under one ressie, keys are the same.
4) If room are under two ressies or not CONNECTING, the keys are not the same.

* There is an unorthodox way to work around this, but few CM's know the method, and Disney does not like it to be done.

Odd as we always have ONE reservation with 2 rooms and the keys do not work both doors. Maybe we just get a trickster CM at check in every year LOL :confused3

I went on a trip with friends at POFQ and we requested connecting rooms, one reservation. We did not get connecting but got adjoining (next door) and our keys opened both rooms.
