Are kids' key cards able to be used for purchases? For example, if DSs are not with us and they want to go to a restaurant, can they use their room key cards to pay for the meals, and other purchases??

Also, I think I read a long time ago that cell phones don't work in Disney World. Is this true??

Thanks! :)

I think (I know someone will correct me if I'm wrong) but at checkin you can choose if you want charging privledges added to the kids cards it is your choice.

My parents were just in WDW in January and I called them from the parks, restaraunts, resorts, etc. and the cell phone worked just fine. We plan on bringing ours.

As long as you authorize them to have charging privleges when you check in they will be able too. Just a note though my oldest dd 13 did have trouble at roaring forks...they really gave her a hard time. The front desk told me if it ever happened again to tell the child to have the cashier call the front desk for verification...

Our cell phones have worked in most outside areas..Sprint...inside buildings most didn't work..

Yup, you can have your kids cards have charging privileges as well.

Our Nextel phones worked just about everywhere except inside rides but we'd shut them off then anyway!

Our cingular phones worked better at Disney, than they did at home.

Another reason we should move to WDW.

I remember them asking, what room keys to include charging on, and which ones not too.

When we have gotten room keys for our children, we were always asked if we wanted them to have charging priveleges. We used our cell phone last week, we now have cingular and for the most part did not have any problem.

Thanks for those quick replies! :) DSs being able to charge will make our trip so much easier since they're both teenagers and we plan on letting them go off on their own a bit. They're both very responsible, and we definitely want them to be able to get a meal when they're not with us, and charge it to our room.

As for the phones, I'm really glad to hear this because we plan on using our cell phones to keep in touch with the kids when we're not together.

Our phones worked great too.

FYI - as far as the charging goes - you cannot get a separate limit set for the kids. We did WL in November 2003 and let DS 13 have charging privileges and tried to get him a reduced amount - no can do. It is tied to the room, and at a Deluxe the limit was $1500. I just didn't tell him this....and made him save all receipts.

He did fine, except when he went to DisneyQuest, he didn't realize that the Ultimate Park Hopper included admission, so he charged admission to the room - luckily he called us from there, and he was able to get the charge reversed.

They can put ANYTHING on the card!! My teenager put everything from a .99 pack of mentos to $149.10 parasailing trip on it! Just make sure you have a talk to them about what you expect them to do or you might have a few surprises. I had thought my teenager was paying for the parasailing trip at the Contemporary out of his "spending money". Oh no, it was "easier" to charge it to the room!LOL!! :confused3

I've never had any problems with my Motorola Phat Farm(i733) 2-way cell phone.

Your kids can use their room key to charge as long as you authorize it. I have Verizon and my cell phone worked great there.

Here's my question.

What mechanism, if any, is there for you to be able to dispute a charge that has been fraudulently or mistakenly put on your room key? I'd like to be able to use my room key to pay for purchases in the park but I was wondering what would happen if, for example, I lost my room key with the charging privileges activated and it was several hours before I realized. If I lost a credit card, I know that I would be able to dispute any charges on the basis of the signature on the charge slip. Does the resort ask for signature specimens for each person who is issued a key or do they just hand you a sheet with some small print that says you are strictly liable for any purchase that their records show as having been charged to the room?

TIA

Well I have never heard of any one using a room key that was stolen/lost. But if was, we could call Securiy, have them check cameras to see if you charged the items or not. But if I was on the desk that day, and it was small amounts, I would just remove them, it just not worth the time.

If I'm not mistaken, your room key doesn't say what hotel your at nor does the picture depict the hotel and I think I recall they always asked when you charged to your room key what hotel you were staying at and your room number. Who knows, maybe on their register it shows this information and it's how they verify you. I'm not positive about this but I do recall they would ask.

Our last stay at the YC the girl at the desk asked if I wanted my almost 8 & almost 10 year old "DIVA GIRLS" to have charging privilages! :earseek: :earseek: Of course as I am saying a a loud NO they are both nodding YES! I wish we had the moment on tape!

I know we all had to sign our own room keys/charge card in front of checkin clerk.
I have never been asked what hotel/room I was staying at for charging. I did have to sign for any charges just like a reg charge card.

The CM asked us if we wanted charging privileges on all keys or just the ones for the adults (Yeah right, giving charging privileges to DS7 and DD5-not in this lifetime) As for the cell phones, yes they work. However, I found that when i was at MGM by TOT, I had roaming on my phone. I never noticed it elsewhere. And by the way it worked inside of TOT. DH was with DS and called me while I was on the "elevator" starting to go up!!!princess:

Just a quick note...(has nothing to do with validation of charge priviliges) I've heard from a CM I called that the cards this year will be changed from Tinkerbell to either a 50th Celebration (likely) or a resort specific (less likely) design. They said that the department that handles that sent something out about it a few weeks ago and said they are still deciding what to do. She said they could just leave the Tinkerbell ones alone since it would cost a lot of money to make new ones when they already have the ones currently in stock with tinkerbell on them.

When i went in October I had my 2 little kids who were 2 and 4 at the time and my husbands cousin who is 20. I had charging on my card only. I think you can set it up for which ever cards you want.
