Hi all.

I have to drastically cut down my cholesterol and fat levels as my recent blood tests have been too high. They are not in the serious high range but the higher part of the middle range.

I do know I have put on loads of weight this last year, hardly any of my clothes fit me and I am fairly depressed most of the time. My posts on the CB don't usually reflect this.

I also have high blood pressure that my doctor is monitoring. In a months time I have to go for a test to see if I have got diabetes.

All in all not too good so I thought I need some support from the WISH board as I struggle through this.

My doctor gave me a list showing me the foods that are good, bad and darn right ugly! So I started the diet yesterday and need to measure myself, buy a pair of scales, and start some kind of exercise, at the moment I don't do any.

Anyway, that's a bit about why I need to loose weight. I think I'll go and find some of your pretty clipart now.

I am sorry you are having such a rough time. I hope everything goes okay with your next test. We are here to support you in any way we can...I have found that the support helps get me through the tough spots. Please post often and let us know how you are doing. You will be in our thoughts. :)

BTW, if you have not "officially" joined the WISH challenge, please do. It also helps to keep a WISH journal, if you haven't already. ;)
 
Belle, you have come to a good place. I'm sorry for the news you got, but as you make some changes, you will feel loads better. For me, it was giving up Cokes. I was a true coke-aholic and gave them up 5/15, 2003. I can honestly tell you that I can't stand the taste of them now, but I do like the idea...like coke & pizza, coke & popcorn, coke & chips...or let's go get a Coke. But with my lifestlyle change, I dno't think of it much anymore and when I do I realize that if I got one I wouldn't drink it anyway!!lol.

Our other change was to substitute reduced fat prodcuts (cheese sour cream...anything with a choice) for the full-fat versions. We don't notice a difference in the taste, but it does add up.

We also started walking. There are also all kinds of exercise programs out there and one will fit you, but for me, walking is what I do....I live in a tiny town, so there are no gyms, etc. Plus, I have bought into the gym thing before and when I didn't go, then I had all that guilt to deal with, too...and I made that go away with oreos.

Anyway, make some small changes and you'll find that the big changes will come on their own.

I still have a long way to go, but I didn't get here overnight, either. It will happen...

Belle, welcome to WISH. You have a made a good decision in joining us. The people on this board are so friendly and supportive. You will find much encouragement here. I am sorry to hear about your health problems. I am sure that making positive lifestyle changes with diet and exercise will make a world of difference in your health and we are here to support you.

You can do this, one step at a time. Welcome again! :wave:
 

Belle - You can do this! Start with small goals - exercising for 20 minutes 3 days/week, following your diet - whatever you feel like you can handle. After you've accomplished your first goals and feel comfortable with them, set new goals for yourself. I know that a long list of do this and don't do that can seem overwhelming, so just start small and eat the elephant one bite at a time! ;) You can do it and the group here is great support!

Belle ~ There is plenty of room for you here on the Wish.

I'm sure that once you start on your healthy eating plan, getting plenty of exercise you will feel so much better. You will also get plenty of inspiration here that will help you pick the form of exercise that best suits your unique personality.

Welcome to the WISH board:wave2: You will be amazed at how much better you will feel with exercising - if I don't exercise now I feel"SICK" - what a difference from 4 1/2 months ago! You will see that after a couple of weeks you will feel SOOO much better! You will begin to look forward to working out.

I've been here for about 6 mo. and it is such a happy place!! Here's a tip that worked for me (to get started) . Buy your self a pedometer. Put it on when you get up and take it off when you go to bed, keep a record. See how many steps you put on in a regular day ( 1 week trial) then increase it by 500 steps or what ever you choose. I didn't buy one from McDonalds but I've seen their advertisements. Kmart, Target, etc all have them . About $10.00 . It will help you get a clear picture of where you are and where you need to go. Step 2 - drink your water. 64 ounces minimum a day. After these two things become comfy, try some new strategies. If you are going to start a walking program , get good walking shoes or you will have foot pain. Best of luck to you and have a great trip to fitness.
 
I'm fairly new to this board myself and have found great support and information. Please do what you need to do to stay (get) healthy. People here have a lot of info, so do not be afraid to ask questions.
