I need help. We are a family of 6. 4 kids ranging from 3-17.
We have stayed at POR 3 times and the Yacht Club in September.
I'm now trying to plan a trip in late August and can't decide between the Cabins( with a golf cart), Coronado springs(2 rooms) or Caribbean Beach( 2 rooms)?
I'm a little nervous as we recently stayed at the amazing YC and anywhere we go will be a huge downgrade but I really can't afford a deluxe resort right now. I would normally wait another year and save for a deluxe resort but this is the last trip with my oldest who is going off to college in September. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thoughts:

Cabin - kitchen would be great to have for breakfast, big fridge etc for your group. Not sure actual age/gender but the bunks are not big with "footboards" so taller kids would likely not fit. So Queen, Bunks and Queen Sofabed in LR. Will that work for you. Con, one bathroom.

CSR - Our favorite moderate, GREAT pool area with lots of amenities right there, good transportation, lots of eats ....... going through renovation but you shouldn't be put in building that is under renovation ... but by August could be in a NEW room. If you request Ranchos I think they should be done by then. Are you good IF the rooms end up not connecting since that is just a request?

CBR - Rooms all renovated a year or so ago, except Pirates (and it's full beds). But permits are rolling now for major ground disturbance/water work which may be starting this spring. No one is really sure what will be happening but apparently getting ready for big construction. I think this August will only be all the prep work for the ground/water etc. May or may not be disruptive, don't know. Younger ones will like the Pirate pool and zero entry. Again the rooms not connecting could happen but they do try hard.

Look at pictures and see what appeals.

CBR is my least favorite Mod. I will not return As @HopperFan stated they have filed construction permits.
I have not stayed at CSR. I think it looks very nice. You need to decide how important connecting rooms are as there is a real possibility you will not have them
Cabin with a Golf Cart would be my vote. Only downside is the 1 bathroom. Full kitchen, even if only for breakfast, drinks and snacks is great and will save you money. Extra room is wonderful. Little one can be put to sleep and older ones have the living/dining room to hang out for a bit.
Good Luck

Know that if you go with 2 rooms while you can request that they connect via an inside door, there is no way to guarantee it. If you didn't get them one adult would have to sleep in each room.

Your kids are spread out in age like mine. I would go with two rooms at CBR as I know that resort theme, pools, etc. would appeal to my toddler to teen crew, especially for a summer trip. :thumbsup2

Oh wow
I was not aware of that
Thank you

The cabins are certainly an option. You may want to price out a Jr. Suite at CSR as well, as that room category will hold 6. There is, of course, the AoA and ASMu Family Suites, but, given your experience at YC, perhaps those aren't under consideration.

We haven't stayed but had looked seriously into renting one of the cabins and having just one bathroom, especially one that is small and doesn't have an exterior sink would make it tough for getting out the door in the morning for our group. Since you like deluxe, have you looked into renting DVC points? We were able to book 5 people into a 1 bedroom that sleeps 4, but had to provide our own bedding for the 5th guest. I'm wondering if you could have 6 people in the AKV 1 bedrooms that sleep 5? The master bedroom is quite spacious and could easily fit a twin size air mattress and you would have in-room laundry and a kitchen. The 1 bedrooms at Kindani even have 2 bathrooms. If you're interested, I bet someone on the DVC board would know if you can book 6 in the 5-person rooms. Good luck!

I'd do two rooms at CSR...you get two bathrooms, four comfy beds, lots of eating options, more amenities than most mods, and a really good pool and slide.

Connecting rooms aren't guaranteed, but two out of three trips, my family (not on the same reservation, just connected through MDE) got rooms that had a connecting door or were right next to the other. WDW will try really hard to get your rooms as close together as possible if you're on the same reservation usually.

If you don't want to risk not having connecting rooms, I'd try a suite at AoA.

With 6 people, I'd do 2 rooms ANYWHERE over the one bathroom cabin.

Each of the moderates has great pools.

CSR IS great and has more amenities, but the farthest sections are .48 mile from food court....makes refillable mugs downright laughable....yes, I know there is an interior shuttle but...walk to stop...wait for shuttle...make stops...refill drink...walk to stop....wait for shuttle.....etc.

You can fill your mugs at the main pool quick service location ...
... and we usually stay in Ranchos, the main hub not a far walk, no need to bus.

And since she is also considering Ft Wilderness and Caribbean Beach, this is a smaller resort to navigate.

Or, if staying at CSR (or anywhere), just don't get or use the mugs.

My family drinks water in our room, in the parks, etc. We're not big soda drinkers. We always order from Garden Grocer, so we get a case of water there and get maybe a six pack of soda for the handful of people who want an occasional diet coke. The in-room coffee (we double coffee packs for each cup when we brew for more 'umph'...we just ask for extra from housekeeping when we arrive) is enough to get the adults going in the morning, though we'll usually get another cup of coffee in the parks.

We've just never used the refillable mugs. If someone does on a regular basis, then sure, it's consideration when selecting a resort, but many people who visit WDW don't use the meal plan/refillable mugs.

NOW, if we could get draft beer/wine/fruity drinks in the refillable mugs, that would be a whole 'nother story...

CBR sometimes gets a bad rap on here but our family really likes it.

We haven't stayed CSR and the Cabins, but one bathroom would get the cabins scratched of my list quickly.

Of the choices listed, I would absolutely go with CSR. I found the pool service location perfect for morning coffee, and did not see the walk to the lobby and food court horrific. I think we stayed in Ranchos as well, but I confess that I seldom remember the names of sections. It is a gorgeous resort that I found to be way more relaxing than CBR, and I liked that resort. It was just LOUD!

I know that connecting rooms are no guarantee, but that would not be a deal breaker for me. I would simply make sure I did nto muddy the water by making too many requests, keep it simle with connecting rooms as the first request, and maybe a section as well. If I had my heart set on connecting rooms, it woudl be my only request.

This. As I travel solo and only for a few days a refillable mug at $17.99 (or whatever it is now) is a waste for me. HOWEVER, when I took nieces and nephew as teens, the gulped, slurped and binged on disgusting amounts of sodas they wore a grove in the sidewalks at our resort getting refills.

CSR IS a beautiful resort and I found it to be quiet as well. Pools are terrific.

If a room sleeps 4, on lay 4 people may (legally) sleep in it, unless one of the persons is a child under age 3 in a crib. Same for a room that sleeps 5...only 5 people may sleep in it. The AKV 1 bedroom won't work for OP as all of the kids are 3 or over.

Personally, I'd get 2 rooms somewhere and make connecting rooms my only request.

For how my family travels, I would want 2 bathrooms. I would choose b/w CBR & CSR in your scenario. I would also compare prices with a Family Suite at AOA. My 1st thought was a 2br at OKW or SSR but I know the cost is high. I'm not sure where they fall in comparison to 2 rooms at a moderate.

I'm not sure if the rules have changed, but I was allowed to book 5 people over the age of 3 in a 1 bedroom at the Boardwalk. The owner I rented the points from said they allow it, but that they don't provide extra bedding, towels, etc.

The 1 bedrooms at BWV cannot accomodate the sleeper chair or fold down bed so they allow you to have 5 in the room, but you have to provide your own bed and bedding for the 5th person. Some of the other DVC resorts have 1 bedrooms that do have a fifth sleeping surface, but BWV does not. The big reason is because BWV has all lockoff 1 bedrooms, and with that connecting door on that wall, there is no room for these items. The word is that they will never be added to those resorts (I think BCV is the same way).

No, you cannot book six people in the one bedroom villas that sleep five unless one is under the age of three. You need a two bedroom villa with six people (none under three years old).
