My First Post!!!
We are planning a trip Oct 2004. Myself, hubby and 3 boys - ages 11, 7 and almost 3. We are thinking of splitting our stay between the Poly and AKL. Can we fit in one room at each of these resorts? :D

At the Polynesian you certainly can. With the exception of suites all rooms have two queens and a daybed.

At the AKL you will need to book a deluxe room to sleep five. Even so these rooms will be smaller than the Polynesian rooms.

You will be allowed to stay in a standard room at AKL, since your youngest will be under 3. You will only have bedding for 4, however, either two queens or one queen, and a set of bunks. Your youngest will be expected to sleep in a crib - unless you can work out some bed sharing. I know my 3 year old loved sharing a queen bed with Mom & Dad - she still migrates in between us fairly often, and she is almost 7 now!

They also have deluxe rooms at AKL - a little larger footprint - with a queen, 2 bunks and a daybed - about the size of a regular twin bed. We stayed in one of these last December - awesome!!

Duh...my bad. I skimmed too fast. CRCrazy is absolutely right. Sorry for the misinfo!

I know the Contemporary wasn't one of the hotels you listed, but their rooms are HUGE (largest standard rooms on property except for Shades of Green---I think they are about 430 sq.ft) and I think your boys would get a kick out of the hotel. It has a nice arcade and it's cool watching the monorail glide in and out. Each room comes standard with two queens and a large daybed. Plus there is still room for a lounge-type chair & ottoman and large table. Our family of 4 was very comfortable, and we also had a pack n play crib set up.

I've stayed at both.

The rooms at the AKL are considerably smaller than those at the Polynesian. But you should be fine, your kids are young, and frankly watching the animals on the savanah from your balcony is incredible. If you can swing it, I would get a deluxe room, those extra feet and extra seating area on the day bed will proably make a huge difference.

I would spend the majority of the time a tthe Polynesian though. With your kids you'll probably be spending a lot of time in the MK, and it's so convenient to get there from the polynesian. Also the pool there is fabulous, and we just love the resort. The rooms are quite large, and you'll be very comfortable there.

I'd plan on spending most of the time at teh PR, then maybe the last two days enjoying the AKL. Normally I suggest moving from the smaller room to the larger one, but in this case you're probably better off doing it in reverse to wind down at the end of your trip :)

Thanks for all the info. We stayed at the Contemporary in 1999. We wanted something different this time. I am actually planning a trip for my husband and kids, plus my parents and my sister and her kids. (Total of 11 people). Unfortunately they have no interest in planning any of it!!
