Room Discount vs Dining Discount Question

Hi Everyone, first time poster here. I've been lurking for a few weeks and have found so much great information already!! Planning a trip for Dec 1-8, 2013(was thinking about going 12/7-12/14 but that is when Pop Warner will be there and would rather avoid that) and staying at Port Orleans-Riverside as there are 5 of us. Before I book, I have a question I haven't been able to figure out through searches. I will most likely get the dining plan regardless if it is free(I am hoping tho!) as my kids love character meals. I have a disney visa so there is a possibility that we may get a room discount. My question, let's say I have a package booked and the room discount is the only one offered, can I have that applied to my package or does it need to be a room only reservation to apply?? We will probably still go if there are no discounts available, but a girl can hope. Thanks!!

You can apply a room only discount to a package - it just discounts the room portion, nothing else

Room discounts apply to packages as well .... basically whatever % you save would be applied to the room portion of the cost of the package.

One more question, if a discount does come out, am I able to change it online through my reservation or do I need to call??

Gotta call......or book new online and call and cancel other. I always find it easier to call and modify instead of cancelling and rebook. Just dont call the morning of new releases unless u r very patient. You could Wait for an hr plus..........

Its funny I would say the exact opposite, I find it easier to book another then call and cancel.

reason i like calling and modifying is because i dont have to give all the info of all the guests all over and my requests are still there. I just call give them my reservation number and ask for the discount to be applied. hoping that there is still availbilty at that very moment. so far never an issue and i ALWAYS get someone pleasant to talk to....

note: when i modified my ressie last week i ended getting more than the original ressie said when i made it in 2012.

2 disneyquest vouchers instead of 1
2 minigolf vouchers instead of 1

and $900 savings with spring discount applied to my res...

also when room planners pull up info they may go in order of ressie # and/or date. i feel it cant hurt for those special requests if you made em first. Dont flame me...i do know that nothing is guaranteed but it cant hurt i figure.

so if we get that "bearface"room we so want, ill believe these reasons helped.

still debating the online vs onsite check-in. But with fastpass+ coming ???? may not have any option but to do online....
