Room checks...romantic couples trip

I have spent some time trying to read up on options for dealing with room checks but I'm starting to get stressed out.

My husband and I will be at Kidani for 3 nights in September, renting points. We NEVER get time alone. I'm barely exaggerating here, we live in a very small house with 3 adult kids (youngest 18) and our room has a passthrough to one of the bedrooms, so privacy is a real issue. :scared:

So I'm so excited to have 3 uninterrupted days to spend with him but come to find out people will be knocking on our door and coming in whether we like it or not. I know it seems like such a small short thing, but I think because I have had to deal with being interrupted in my own home, it's really making me stress about if we come back mid day from the parks and want some alone time.

Should I request a certain time at the front desk? Will they even honor it? Has anyone dealt with this on a couple trip? I'm not shy about telling them directly why, if that will help! Lol, obviously since I'm posting on a public forum! :rolleyes1

Last time we were there, they weren't doing the checks, so I really have no clue how to deal but I might lose my mind if we lock the bar lock and they interrupt and try to open a door. o_O

I'm not sure if it's the same for all resorts, but we had a message on our room phone stating that they saw our room occupied sign and that daily security checks are part of their process and to call if we want to request a time. We didn't try it, but I would if I thought we needed to. Hope this helps.

When we were at BLT in October, when we checked in at front desk, we requested room checks between certain hours when I knew we would be at the parks. Never had a problem. We always use the privacy lock and deadbolt when we are in any hotel.

They will knock not just barge in.
Put the latch on the door and then you'll know for sure no one will actually come in.
If you are indisposed they will not require you to allow them in at that time.
They will come back later.
Its really not a big deal and its not at all like it was when they first started doing it.

we typically call when we're leaving for the morning and let them know we'd love to have our room serviced (or check completed, if we're staying on DVC points) by the time we anticipate being back for an afternoon break. we haven't had any problem having that met!

Thanks everyone! It sounds like requesting time in the morning when we head to the parks will help! I'm glad to hear people have had success with this.

@Twoboysnmygirl..Enjoy your trip! I "get it", Adult son(23) is finishing his Masters on line at home, during the last year. So happy that we had the chance to spend this year since he was living away the last four years and will be moving end of August, BUT...LOL!! :D

Right!! We love them but for some reason I had thought little kids were more of an issue living with...wrong! Little kids dont know what's going on, big kids do!

We too have an adult child at home. We take adult trips often, just DH and I, as out get away. Over 20 nights, probably 30 now, since the new policy has gone in to place. We have had a total of 2 knocks on our door and both of those were when we forgot to place the "we are in here" sign on the door. We've never had anyone knock on our door with the sign on it.
We do nothing special, we don't tell them when we plan to be in the room, we don't spend all day in the parks, we sleep in late quite often, come back for breaks too. We don't ask for housekeeping at a set time, we take it when it comes. We do use the door latch when in the room.
So needless to say, in my view, they are a non-issue.
I can't explain why others seem to garner so much more undue attention to their rooms during their trips.

Will you be having housekeeping? We spent 10 nights at CSR in October, but had housekeeping each day, and never received any room checks. At least, not while we were present. We left the room around 8-9am most days (around 11am other days), and were in the room for 2-4 hours in the afternoon, and usually out at night. So we were in the room a good amount, and used the room occupied sign when we were. I have to assume because we had housekeeping that the room checks were not necessary.

No, we are renting points and only for 3 days, so no housekeeping. DVC only does housekeeping at 4 days.

Oh wow, I had no idea they had changed that! Even for rented points?

Yes, even for rented points. No different. You may avoid the room checks if you take the room occupied sign off the door when you're not there so that housekeeping can do the trash. Some people leave the room occupied sign on at all times because they don't want housekeeping service at all, and there's been some speculation that this could trigger room checks.

We have stayed at the BWV twice since the room check policy went into effect. The first time, closer to the beginning of the policy, we made a request at check in that they not come to the room between Noon and 4pm as that is our afternoon break. No issues, no one bothered us. The second trip, January of this year, we did not make an arrangements at the front desk. We still went to the parks early and came back around noon. No issues. Trash was always removed before we got back from the parks. No knocks on the door.

Here's the thing: There's no guarantees. We opted out of housekeeping last summer, got the gift card, and got housekeeping 4 days in a row! I called and didn't help, the housekeeping kept coming! With Disney, the system works until it doesn't. So here is what you can do: make requests all you want and stick the sign out, but don't trust it. What you can trust: the door chain. They are not going to break the chain. You don't need to give them reasons. Their left hand may not know what their right hand is doing.

Yea use the security latch. I passed on my preferred window for trash pick up directly to a HK manager. I still used the latch. Sometimes plans change so the latch is non negotiable. My experience though is that if you are at the end of the hall at BWV they will get your trash when they get there, regardless of requests.

We try our best to remember to use the sign too when we are in the room and remove it when we leave. I think we have only forgotten it twice in 3 trips (8-12 days each) since the room check policy began. But honestly the HK or security person forgets to empty some of the trash cans too. Either nobody’s perfect or maybe security just doesn’t know where all the trash cans are located?
