We are traveling with three other families next week.

None of those families have a credit card, only debit cards or cash. Can they charge to the room with cash? Can they grant charging to their children but limit the spend?

So if they have $500 cash, can they say put $200 on mom's and dad's and $50 for each child's magic band?

How does it work with a debit card?

A credit or debit card has to be on file in order for a guest to have charging privileges. You cannot leave cash for the purpose of establishing a credit line. However, you can pay down the balance on the room folio at any time using cash. Disney will not run your debit card until the balance on your account reaches

• Values and Moderates: $1500
  
• Deluxe and DVC: $2000
• or whatever balance is on the account after midnight before your checkout morning

You cannot place a dollar limit on different MBs for charging. It might be a better idea to give the children each a Disney GC and not permit MB charging.

Keep in mind when using a debit card oftentimes the hotel will hold some of the funds on the card/account. It can be a pain if they are planning on using their debit cards for purchases.

True at some other hotels but Disney does not do this.

Actually, you can have limits set for children at check-in. Ask your cashier to allocate a certain money amount for them. It depends on your bank. As long as the card says visa, master card, etc they can usually be put on file. I have seen some UK/Canadian guests try this and it did not work. You will know immediately. We use USAA and we put our debit card on file. So again YMMV.

What do you mean by " a hold on the account " with a debit card? We were planning to use ours for room charging- meals and whatnot, but this doesn't sound good!

WDW resorts do not put any kind of "hold" on debit or credit cards.

I've never read of this being successfully done.

It is something easy that can be done (newer cast members aren't as familiar). When you allocate certain people in your party to charge you can then set the limit for however much (up to the limit the hotel allows you - which for deluxes is 2000).

You could use your cash to get a Disney gift card and see if you can link the gift cards to kids account

I always use my debit card. However, I do have to let my bank know because my normal per day limit that I set up with them would be blown to pieces by my bar bill alone when the Hotel gets around to charging!

Always wise to have a limit, Always wise to call and up it. Never wise to think about how far you go over it. Arrrgggggghhhhhhhhh!

They can always get a Walmartmoneycard. Its Visa logo card that u buy at walmart for like $3.00 and you have them load money to the card. You use it just like a credit card....If there is money on the card. That way you can only spend what you have on it. Because its not a true credit card that you have to repay. That way you have a "credit card" on file with Disney. Just go to where you pay bills, cash a check at any Walmart and they can help you. So you don't have to carry large amts of cash when you travel.
