are you allowed to put all your charges on a visa debit card? i do not use credit cards, but this is accepted just like a visa cresit card . :confused3

Yes... but some things to remember. Most debit cards will only allow you to charge $300-$500 in one day, so if you are going to go over that, be sure to make a payment along the way so that your card is not declined the day you are checking out (or go to your bank before you leave and ask them what their policy is and see if you can adjust it)... AND, make sure that you are NOT on express check out. When you are on express check out you are giving them permission to charge your card as needed. If you are not on Express check out you can go to the desk and verify your bill, make sure it is all correct prior to the payment being taken, this way if there is a mistake you are not waiting for a credit to be returned to your checking account.

If you want to do express checkout you can get your bill the night before you are to leave and make sure everything is correct.

I always use my debit card for room charges and I keep all my receipts and check on my charges throughout my stay. You can ask them to charge it at any time and when you reach your limit they will automatically charge it that evening. Just ask for a printout of your room charges and make sure everything is correct since being a debit card it could take awhile to get anything disputed back in your account.

We have used our debit card, and have never had a problem. There is no dollar limit for using it per day, but we do have a limit to how much we can get from the ATM per day.

That depends on your bank. A lot of banks do have a daily limit which is usually around $500. We get declined Debit cards at the hotels all the time because they have a set daily limit, you don't want to find out that your bank does this at check out. Best thing to do is keep track of what you are spending and go to the desk and make a payment sometime during your trip so that you are not trying to push a large amount through at check out. Or as mentioned, check with your bank and see what their policy is.

I've had the debit card problem on my first trip. I bank with Wells Fargo, on our last day I went over my daily limit and it was pain during the last day because everytime I used the card the CM had to call my bank. The folks at the Rose and Crown said it happens all the time. Anyway, I usually pay up my room a couple of times while there, that way a large chunk isn't taken on my checkout day. YMMV.

I went to AAA to pay the balance of my trip. Although there was more in the account than my $3,600 payment, I had to call the bank for them to allow the debit.
There must be a limit on a visa debit card.
Also, last summer at CSR we used visa debit at check in as credit card for room charging. They said $500 limit, which surprised me because we had plenty in there. They must set some sort of limit. Didn't much matter because we were on the dining plan and had disney dollars so we didn't even have any charges.
This time we're not even going to have charging privelages on our room key. (DH lost one room key last year while racing to get fast passes and I was in a panic wondering if it was found and charged on!)

I am going to WDW in September, staying at POR, with the free dining promotion (YAY!). We paid for the whole package at the time of booking (used tax refund) so I don't owe anything at all to Disney. :cool1:
My question is, when I check-in, do I still have to give them a debit card or credit card to have on file? I know that if I want charging-things-to-the-room privilages then they need a card; but if I just intend to pay for things as I purchase them, do they still need a card? Do they require a card to be on file in case they would need to bill for room damages or stolen pillows or something like that? Not that I intend to trash my room or steal linens :sad2: , but is it policy?
TIA!

If you prefer, you can always put down cash, Disney Dollars, Disney Gift Cards, or travellers checks to enable room charging instead of swiping a credit or debit card.

If you have any left when you check out, it would be refunded to you in cash. You would have to go to the front desk to check out, however, instead of doing express check out.

nothing is required if:

- you don't wish to enable express check-out
- you don't wish to enable room charging privileges
- you don't wish to order internet access in the room

in fact, you can even enable room charging by providing payment ahead of time if you wish.

if you trash your room, they already know who you are, so that's not so much a concern.

I used my debit Visa last year. I liked the way it was billed. Instead of having several small transactions on my account statement, it was billed as $500, $300, etc. Once I was at DTD and my KTTW card was declined due to reaching my $500 limit during my stay. All we had to do was call the hotel (POP) and the CM put that first transaction of $500 thru which opened up my KTTW card once again to continue charging.

disney loves the way it's billed too. less transaction fees to deal with and whereas only adults would have the convenience with their credit/debit cards, the whole family can now enjoy impulse shopping.

the limit at CSR should have been $1000. every resort puts a limit on it, regardless of what's backing it up. values are $500, moderates are $1000 and deluxes are $1500.

Guess we're lucky, never had a problem with our Visa debit. We now deal with a very large, but still local bank. I use my debit for everything. When I bought my washer at Sears (close to $1000 purchase) I had a message on my machine when I got home, making sure it wasn't a stolen card. Same thing when we go out of town, if I don't notify them ahead of time they will call the house if they notice strange charges (like the card being used in two cities far away from each other in a ral close time period). The funniest one was having used the card at a local Chicos it ran through as Columbus OH instead of Columbus GA. They called me to make sure it was me since I had also used it at the local Target within 30 minutes of that purchase. Now I call them to let them know we'll be out of town. Also, our card is platinum now, so I'll get double points this trip. Yippee!

Last year I actually had alot of cash and disney dollars so I put that down and also my debit to use after i spent that. I just found having the charging privileges so much easier then having to carry my card in the parks.

bradk is 100% correct.

Unlike almost every other hotelier in the USA, Disney World resorts do NOT in any way shape or form require that you present them with plastic for them to "have on file" or for "incidentals."

Anyone who tells you they do is assuming or is confusing it with setting up a room charge or is just wrong.

On a related topic ....

If you like the idea of setting up a room charge, you can do it with cash or Disney Dollars, if you like. By doing this, you won't have to risk carrying cash with you while on Disney property. EVERY PLACE in EVERY theme park and WDW owned-and-operated resort accepts room charge. The only exception (barring equipment failures) would be roving vendors like the people hawking stuff in front of and behind parades.

As far as DTD, some places take it and some don't. It's not wise to go to DTD armed ONLY with a room key for room charges.

These are UPPER limits. You can set the limit to be any dollar amount you want, up to but not exceeding that limit. In other words, you can request a lower limit if you want to limit yourself from spending too much.

We always use our Debit Card when we travel. We have called the bank and had our daily limit raised without any problem. We usually like to make the bank aware we are going out of state so they don't think our card has been stolen and being used by someone else.
If your worried about exceeding your daily limit but a big lump sum being charged at the end of your stay then use your debit card for each purchase in the park instead of your Keys card then the charges for each day will go through that day instead of at the end of the trip.

I just paid my blance with AAA off last week. My travel agent did two separate payments both below the limit amount.
