Room Charge Question

I read a while back that some of the hotels were testing a new credit card only way of paying off room charges. I usually go down to the lobby every day or so with cash and/or gift cards throughout my trip to pay it down. If I can't do that anymore I may want to use those first before I start charging to my room. I hate to have the cash and cards ready to use only to not be able to. Just want to make sure I know the policy before I go.

AKL is still running a test of going cashless for everything except room charges. So zero issue using cash or gift cards to pay off room charges no matter where you stay.

They might change the policy on gift cards, but I think they'd have a real hard time not accepting cash for room charges.

I cant seem them changing the gift cards either its run like a credit card.... I mean I could be wrong but it wouldn't make any sense

Less people at the counter using gift cards to pay down their room charges, less people to staff.

There's no reason to start a freak out. Use some common sense here. Y'all know how crap starts on the Internet. Either of the two posts above are enough to start the rumor flying that Disney is no longer accepting gift cards to pay off room charges. There isn't even a MIGHT here folks. They have NOT at any point made a change regarding what they accept when paying room charges. Gift cards, credit cards, cash, all are accepted. And will continue to be.

There's been no change. You can still do this.
Exactly.

The only reason that made me think of this was post of where some guest would take in like say thirty $25 gift cards to pay down their bill at the resort, taking up a lot of time. Not everyone is in the know about combining the gift cards like we are.

Yeah, I've been one of them. Not because I didn't know but because the website wasn't working. It's their job to take payments. So yeah, they took my payment. And did their job. The horror that they had to swipe the cards. Took 12 minutes instead of 2. But really, do you seriously believe Disney will stop taking Disney gift cards? For pete's sake, they issue gift cards for declining housekeeping. So they take them. At least as long as they make them that is. Do they ever quit selling gift cards period? That I can't say. But they aren't going to sell gift cards and then not accept gift cards.

No they aren't going to quit taking them for payment, but I do believe that they could be looking for ways to in which to become more efficient with payments, thus another cost cutting move by lowering the levels of staff.

If their gift card website was less cumbersome, they might find more of us willing to combine our gift cards. When I have to type in 12 digits, peek off a strip, type the last 4 and another 8 digits, then do a captcha to add a card - then combine and delete because I can only have 5 cards at a time? Yeah, I’ll just have them swipe for me.

(FTR I usually do combine, but sometimes I just don’t bother. I can’t believe how un-user friendly the site is!)
