Room Block- which 3 did you choose?

And, do guests get discounts ONLY at the hotels in the room blocks?

Yes. When I asked about using Pop Century I was told that my guests were more than welcome to stay there, but they wouldn't get the discount.

For example the Poly is usually comparable in price rack rate to the GF but with the wedding rate the gf is cheaper. In my case the wilderness is usually much less than the Boardwalk but because the Boardwalk is a convention hotel it is only $25 more a night than the wilderness!

So to answer your question the best wedding rates are for the Gf, Beach/Yacht and Boardwalk. Also FYI the wedding rate at the AKL is no longer on a standard room only savannah so it is close to the same price as the GF!

Ok, I see.
For Example:
Normally for the time of year we are going the rack rate for the Wilderness Lodge is $215/night and the Boardwalk is $315/night. However, with your wedding discount, it was only $25 more than the Boardwalk (which would be about $240 for my time of year.) I see what you're saying. That's a $75 discount!!

Guess we better pick some convention hotels :) :) Isn't the Contemporary one? I LOVE the new rooms, they're cool!

Another thing to check on if you're interested in it... we were able to add room types other than standard (different views or deluxe rooms) for our guests. We just had to specify that we wanted a room of a specific type, and they add it to the block, at whatever percentage off the rack rate for that room type at that resort. Hope that made some sort of sense :)

It sure did! When was it that you did that? Our email said 'standard rooms only.' I wonder if it has changed, or if it's just by special request. Thanks! I'll have to check into it :)

More than likely we will have:
Yacht Club
Coronodo Springs
All Stars Music

Most of my mom's side of the family will stay at the Yacht Club.
My father's side will end up at Coronodo.
My FutH's side other than his parents (they will be with us at the Yacht Club) and our friends will take the All Stars.

The form they sent us only listed prices for standard rooms, except for Animal Kingdom which was listed as Savannah view, but we were told to just add in the rooms we wanted, and add Pop. We did this about a month and a half ago, and it showed up in our contract ok.

I am such an idiot!!! I've had these emails from Pam for 2 weeks now and JUST noticed that they have the discounted rates on them already! Oy! Anyway, I calculated the percentage of discount for every resort. Am I allowed to post that? I'm not putting the exact rates, just the percentage they've been discounted to give others an idea.

As far as I know, the discount is the same for everyone (a specific percentage off the rack rate based on the resort), so I don't see why it would be a problem to post.

Ok, just wanted to make sure first :)

Resort Discount Percentages

Grand Floridian
29.8 %

Polynesian
14.8%

Contemporary (Garden Wing only)
30%

Boardwalk
29.8%

Yacht Club
29.8%

Beach Club
29.8%

Wilderness Lodge
14.8%

Animal Kingdom (Savannah View only)
15%

Moderates
14.8%

Values (not Pop Century)
10%

The "rule of thumb" as I was told is this...

Any deluxe resort that has a convention center attached to it receives a 30% discount. The Polynesian, AKL and WL only get a 15% discount because of that.

Moderates receive a 15% discount, and values 10%.

We're doing 4 resorts too

Grand Floridian
Contemporary
Coronado Springs
All Star Movies

We too were told that Pop was not an option - I never did ask why - guess it's too popular being booked for conventions???

When I booked the Contemporary, my EM asked if we wanted standard or specialty views, so it is an option, but when they send prices they do standard for all of them I guess.

We were originally only doing 3 resorts - not the contemporary, but when we found out that the contemporary was $100 less than the GF that week, my parents decided to splurge to be closer to the WP and us. Plus, it's cool to stay in a hotel on the monorail!

I was going to save a room just for my parents at the GF. My dad has ALways wanted to stay there but has never been able to swallow the price. Unfortunately, since we chose to have the reception on the Boardwalk, it just didn't make sense. So I put them up with DVC:)

Yeah that was the thing with us as well...my mom is going to use a dvc villa at boardwalk (hey at least we will have a great space to get ready in :rotfl: ) Although Dan and I are contemplating doing the gf suite for 2 nights on the day and day after our wedding. Logistically it makes no sense but man do I want to stay at the GF :goodvibes

In the end...the extra cost won't seem like that big a deal a year from your date...so do it if you want:) Just be careful how many things you use that rationale with :cool1: It sounds awesome!

We chose Animal Kingdom Lodge, Grand Floridian, Caribbean Beach, All-Star Movies

Hi :) We just wanted to share our final choices!

1. Contemporary Garden Rooms (can't BEAT the price!)
2. Beach Club
3. Port Orleans French Quarter
4. All Star Movies

Thanks for all the advice :goodvibes

Pop doesn't have "group reservation" abilities like the other resorts, so you can block it but your guests probably won't be grouped together and you won't get discounts. They don't do convention groups there, Pop Warner etc... the team was not set up for that resort and try as everyone has no one has been able to get them to change it.

Nope, I tried too! Only because someone on here said they let them use it :confused3 Anyway, I was told that my guests are welcome to stay there, and that they will block rooms for them, but they won't get the discount. Well, that sure defeats the purpose, doesn't it? ;)
