Room Block question thread- Post your questions here!

I am having a Wishes wedding.

Do I have to guarantee that we fill up 25 rooms? This is SO confusing!

Only if you want your free night. Technically you don't HAVE to do a room block if you don't want to at all. And I believe if you want the wedding discount you have to guarantee 10 rooms. You have to discuss that with your coordinator and make sure everything is put in your contract. Example, in my LOA I have around 45 rooms guaranteed, with stipulation that I can lower my room block to any amount 60 days before the wedding with no penalty. GET IT IN WRITING! HTH.

It's actually not that hard to fill up 25 room nights. Are you staying on-site? That counts towards it. It's counted by number of nights reserved not the physical number of rooms reserved. For example, DF and I are staying 6 nights, 2 friends are staying 3 nights each in separate rooms and his family are in 2 rooms for 5 nights each. Right there is 22 room nights and there are many more guests who have yet to book their rooms.

I think we might be able to make the 25 nights. I know that 2 of our couples will probably be staying offsite. I'm just nervous that someone will pull out and then I have to pay for those nights. If I could set it lower I would feel better about it. I would love for us to get a free night! We are staying 5 nights (I think). It just all starts to add up!!!

Thanks ladies!

I have a question, does our complimentary room have to be at one of the three resorts we chose in our block?

No - you can have the complimentary night at any Disney resort.

Someone had mentioned that the room discount is no longer available for Escape brides. Does this mean that Escape weddings are not offered to have room blocks anymore? Can anyone confirm this?

Correct. They decided that room blocks are a privilege of a Wishes/Couture wedding and stopped offering them to Escape weddings. However, in the past the discounts haven't been as good as the ones available to the general public, so you're not missing much.

I thought I read somewhere that we could block up to 4 resorts not just three? Do I have to ask for the additional resort? Can we add DVC resorts to the room block ? We have reserved a DVC room and I know some family members would like the DVC rooms, so is it possible to put a couple of DVC rooms on the block?

Dawn

I'm also wondering the same thing about DVC. My MOH will be in her DVC room while there so will it count towards the room block?

Guess I got mine right before they changed it. And you're right in that the public discounts are much better. I really set ours up to get the free room. It's too bad they're just taking a lot of stuff away from the Escape package now. Maybe they're trending towards phasing it out??

Coronado Springs, it's a convention resort and it's a moderate. So, is it discounted 15% or 30%?

15%, if that. For some reason Disney doesn't like to discount Coronado Springs. Maybe cuz it's always full up with conventioneers. :confused3

I have another question about the room block. I set it up and its in my contract. I asked all my family members which day's they would be going and now I have one telling me that she isn't sure which day she will go. Does this matter? Here's the thing though, I am not getting married until the friday of that week and she said she would be there from tues-sat. Now she wants to go other days. How does this work? I also hate to go through the hassel to change things only to have her change her mind again!

It doesn't really matter which days they go if they are still meeting your minimum guarantee, but what will matter is availibility. If they want to book rooms outside your room block they will still get the discount and all, up to 30 days before the wedding, but there's no guarantee that there are rooms available except for what's in your room block. HTH.

So most of my family will be staying at a DVC resort on points for our wedding. So I know there is not a discount for DVC but can they do a room block to guarantee a room will be availavble to them when it comes time to book? No one in my family or my fiance's family have boardwalk as thier home resort and I would hate to see they couldn't get a room becuase there everything was booked up at the 7 month mark. Our wedding is in June after schools get out so that could be possible.

They can't do a room block for points reservations, only cash reservations. I know it's scary to wait, but BoardWalk is a huge resort and not as popular as some of the other DVCs (try getting an MK-view room at BLT 7 months out!), so I'll bet they'll be able to get in! :goodvibes

Coronado Springs, it's a convention resort and it's a moderate. So, is it discounted 15% or 30%?

We are using Coronado Springs as our moderate resort in late October and got a 35% discount. Our sales consultant said it's usually 15%.

thank goodness for this thread!!! just to make sure... does the nights before the wedding count? guests are coming in on wed prior to fri wedding... do those nights count as well? our stay counts too?? (DF and I)

Yup! it all counts! I was emailed by a room block specialist after mine was set up and I just email all the reservation numbers from my guests to her and they get added on.

I just got the room block info and had one question, how far before and after the wedding day do you have to block rooms and if you dont block rooms for say the wed before a sat wedding would a reservation on that night still count? Thanks for any help!
