Room Block question thread- Post your questions here!

The room block discount/wedding hotline...can this be booked with park tickets and dining plan? Or if a guest wants to book these items they have to call the main disney booking line and they can't get the room discount? I'm a little fuzzy on this and I don't want to tell my guests the wrong thing. :confused3

Seems kind of silly if they can't book a dining plan and park tickets with their discounted room...

It's Disney logic, go figure! No, unfortunately your guests can only book a room through the room block, not a package which is what you need for dining. I do believe they they offer a discount on park hopper tickets.

Honestly though, my guests got a much better discount through the GP offer than what the room block was giving so that might be an option if your guests are really interested in having the dining plan.

Ok! This room block thing has confused the ever loving crud out of me, so let's see if I've got this right...

I'm having a wishes wedding, my planner will give me a list of resorts to chose from. I can chose three different resorts for my guest to stay at. I can have 5 rooms at each hotel (5x3=15) for two nights each (15x2=30) which more than meets my minimum. I technically only have to fill 80% of what I promised and I can change anything as little as 90 days out if I have any cancellations??

*sigh* it's like reading stereo instructions... Lol

Exactly. Except you don't have to pick 5 rooms, you can have as many rooms at any given hotel as you need (not sure if you were just thinking you can only have 5 rooms blocked.)

Be SURE to have some kind of stipulation about the 90-day thing put in your contract, otherwise you are SOL and will have to pay for any rooms that didn't meet your guarantee.

@PartofDisney'sWorld - thank you so much for the answer! I really wanted my guest to have some option and not be clumped all together if they didn't want to! I was just using the number 5 as a example... Lol, and TY so much for that hint about the 90 days!

Disney offers two different ways to book their resorts: as part of a package with tickets and the dining plan, or as "room-only." When they release discounts, they are either package discounts (i.e., free dining) or room-only discounts (i.e., annual passholder discounts). The DFTW discount is a room-only discount.

Technically, you can block up to 4 resorts, but Disney discourages it because it can make logistics tricky if you're hiring charter transportation for your guests. It's just good to know because you could add that 4th resort and then book it yourself for the honeymoon at a discount.

I asked my sales coordinator about this the other day and he said the room block discount can be booked with park tickets but all meal plans have to be purchased with a rack rate room.

Still seems silly to me.

Also, I was given the option of only being able to book three resorts, not four.

Does anyone have a room block discount that covers Friday March 30th 2012 at the Boardwalk Hotel?? Thanks!

I apologize ahead of time... I have read countless posts and articles about disney packages and dining but still have some confusion!

So lets start with what I do know: I know that through the room block I can offer my guests discounted rooms. I know that they book this by calling the wedding reservation number. I know they can't add dining only to it. Here's where I get fuzzy:

Say Guest A calls and makes this reservation for the room only discount and Guest A wants to add park tickets can he a) add park tickets to this reservation and/or b) if yes, doesn't this now make it a package and therefore dining can be added? I have read on several sites you can keep a room only discount and make it a package (but you cannot combine two discounts in a pacakge)
I am not looking to stack discounts, just looking to see if my guests can turn the wedding rate into a package.

it doesn't seem that much different to me than when disney offers specials like 20% off value hotels on select dates and then when you book you can add tickets and then dining at full price, but you don't forfeit the 20% off.

Thanks in advance! :worship: Examples, cherades, cave paintings, etc, are all welcome to help me understand this :rotfl:

Yes, you can add tickets to a wedding discount room, no it does not make it into a package that you can now add dining to unless there has been a recent change. It's Disney logic.

Honestly, all but 2 of my guests booked through the general public discount, got a much better deal and were able to add dining, tickets without the hassle. What guests can do is make their reservations now, they have up to 45 days before they leave for the trip to make changes on a package. This way if a general discount pops up they can just call and ask for the discount.

Plus, remember that with dining plans comes ADRs. The guests that came to my wedding and had the dining plan were running themselves ragged trying to get to all their reservations. They spent a ton of time at EPCOT and not a lot at other parks (their first time visiting) because all their reservations were there. Just something to keep in mind if you have WDW novices coming as guests.

This is the one thing thats causing me stress :sad2:
I really dont understand room block?
All my guests are going to be travelling over on vacation for 2/3weeks from the Uk. The idea is we all get apartments/villas in Kissemmee so I really dont want to have to book disney resort rooms. Do you have to??
Help me!! Please :)

Only Wishes and Couture weddings are required to set up a room block. If circumstances prevent your guests from booking Disney resorts, you can talk to your planner about reducing or eliminating the requirement. You just won't get any room discounts or a free room night for your honeymoon.

Thanks that has settled my mind a little :thumbsup2

I feel like I read this somewhere, but may not have....who knows!?

With the wedding discount, can it apply to other categories of rooms besides the standard ones? Or will my guests only be able to book standard views/rooms?

Thanks!
