I tried searching to see if there was an all inclusive thread regarding room blocks but didn't find one. Rather than hijack someone else's thread I thought I'd just start one.

When I first started thinking about room block, I went back and re-listened to last week's podcast about room block. It did help a lot but I still had some questions.

Question:If my guests would like to book more room nights than I have set aside in a certain resort, are they able to book it and get the discount or do I have to call and add room nights beforehand?

TIA!

Ok! i just had my meeting with my planner last week!
So your guest calls to make their reservation and should it be at a different hotel than blocked or outside the block, the reservation agent will check that availability and honor the rate if it is available. You do not need to call ahead and change your agreement.
Disney will credit the entire stay to your block so you still get credit for those night outside your block, which is nice.
The only risk is depending on events in disney, availability outside the block is not gauranteed.
Hope this helps!!

Your guests can book as many nights as they want to at your blocked resorts with the discount, as long as they are available—your block just guarantees that X number of rooms will be available.

So if you blocked 5 nights and they call and ask for 10, as long as there are 10 available, they're all set. If the resort is sold out, they would only be able to get the 5.

Let me know what your other questions are, and I'll see if I can answer them! :goodvibes

So really there's no real downside to setting up a room block is there? I'm pretty sure between our room and our families and friends that are staying onsite we're over 25 nights. So we get a free room at a resort of our choice.

I was also really worried that we would be choosing resorts for other people who may not like the same things we would so it's good to know that they can use the discount at resorts outside of the block.

On the room block form it says "Your personal room" is that the room we're staying in for the wedding or the complimentary room?

Any reason why Pop isn't on the list for room block?

kind of OT- but I thought I read somewhere that Disney gives the guests for your wedding a room at a discounted price, am I delusional or what?

We were told that Pop wasn't available to be blocked for weddings groups, but then the next year some brides pushed for it and got it. So if it matters to you, you might want to investigate...

If you set up a room block, your guests are eligible for discounts: usually about 30% at resorts with convention centers, 15% or less at other Deluxes and Moderates, and less than 10% at Values.

Personal room refers to the which resort you want your complimentary room if you reach 25 room nights.

I was told that I could add Pop Century and it would be the same price as the other values.

Post your room block questions here!

There seems to be quite a few threads regarding different aspects of room block, having all the questions and answers in one place would be very helpful.

question

hello everyone! This is my first post, so bear with me....

I just received the information from my consultant to start the letter of agreement including the room night guarantee block. The excel spreadsheet she gave me has two totals at the bottom. One labeled "total room nights" and the other labeled "total room nights guaranteed". They calculate to different numbers - obviously one is a percentage off from the other. My total room nights equals 67 and my guaranteed room nights equals 56 - does anyone know what this means?

Does the "guaranteed" number become what is contracted? Will they actually block the amount i want for the "total room nights"?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

answer

i'm pretty sure that the way it works is they block out the rooms that you want, so the "total room nights", and then per your loa when you get it, you have to guarantee a percentage of those rooms will be filled. I believe the percent is 80%. So just because you want to block a certain amount, doesn't mean you have to fill 100% of them. Just the % that is guaranteed. I hope that makes sense. :upsidedow

total room nights = the number of rooms you are setting aside

total room nights guaranteed = the number of those rooms that you have to actually fill to meet your requirement

you are allowed to set aside up to 20% more rooms than you actually have to fill.

Just to add another point,

I was also told that in the LoA they put a statement that if you have unused rooms blocked for your guaranteed amount, you can drop it back as far as 25 rooms blocked if you need to without penalty at the 90 day mark.

I thought this was a nice feature for flexibility.

I thought I read somewhere that we could block up to 4 resorts not just three? Do I have to ask for the additional resort? Can we add DVC resorts to the room block ? We have reserved a DVC room and I know some family members would like the DVC rooms, so is it possible to put a couple of DVC rooms on the block?

Others might know more but I think you probably could block 4 resorts if you really want to but you have to realize it might create more logistics problems getting everyone to the wedding.

I'm pretty sure that you can't add DVC to your room block as the point of room block is that it guarantees a certain number of rooms at the selected resorts for your guest with a discount. The room block discount doesn't include DVC. However, I believe you can have DVC reservations count towards your room block for the free room.

Hi, I have a question, it may be stupid, lol but here it goes. So when setting up the room block, say I only set aside 10 rooms and I book ten at a hotel using a disney promotion not associated with the room block discount, I still filled up my 10 room night requirement though right? Does that make sense? Also, I am having an escape wedding and am not at 8 months yet, should I call before 8 months and ask for room block info? Thanks!

You would set up the room block with 10 room nights. You can book those nights any way you want, like with another promotion, and they will fulfill your requirement—you just have to give the reservation numbers to your sales consultant or room block contact to have them added manually.

You are not required to set up a room block for an Escape wedding. And since you're planning to book with another discount anyway, there's really no need to set one up unless you think you can fill 25 nights to get a free night.

Ok, I have a question...

I could have sworn I was originally told that even if I make the room block at specific resorts, if one of my guests wants to stay at a resort OUTSIDE my room block, they can and would still get the discount.

Now, after calling disney weddings to inquire about it, they said that they will ONLY get the discount for resorts in my room block. ???

I haven't heard back from my planner yet. Can someone verify one of these for me????

I just asked my planner this last week because my MOH wants to stay at the GF which is not in our room block, and my planner said she would still get the discount as long as there is availability. Soooo, maybe your planner will tell you the same as mine? :confused3

I am having a Wishes wedding.

Do I have to guarantee that we fill up 25 rooms? This is SO confusing!
