So, I thought I understood the free room thing. I thought if your guests booked 25 nights at the resorts you picked for your room block....then you got the free night.

So far, we have approx. 33 room nights booked. Some are for dvc rooms (11) ...some are for rooms in our block (16)...and others are at fort wilderness campsites (7).

I sent an email double-checking that this meant we DID NOT reach our room block minimum..but our guy said, since we had 33 room nights booked (my numbers are out somewhere) that we we do get the free night.

Did I misunderstand? Am I going to show up and find out that I actually need to pay for the night that we have the free room booked?
Thanks,

VK

you have 33 rooms booked on disney property linked to your wedding. 33 is more than 25. you would get the free night. and they confirmed it but you are not sure?

i'm cornfused!!! sounds like you more than met the minimum and are in the clear! the room blocks are indeed confusing - have you listened to last weeks "inside disney weddings radio" podcast? carrie aka lurkyloo discusses the room block on it. sometimes it helps me to hear something rather than read it over and over!!

congrats! :)

lol. I know...seems silly I guess. I just thought the only rooms that counted to your free night were rooms booked at your room block resorts.

We chose:
All Star Sports - so far 4 + 4 + 4 + 5 booked here (17 total)
POR - 0 booked here
Yacht Club - 0 booked here.

We have DVC rented rooms for 6 nights at Saratoga Springs and 5 nights at Disney Contemporary Bay Lake Tower. (11 total)

We also have 7 or 8 nights booked at the campsites at Disney Fort Wilderness.

So....I really thought that we needed 25 in our room block for the free night.

I just don't want to get my hopes up for the free night and then find out that we actually didn't get the 25 in our room block.

I'll check the podcast. Thanks for the tip!

We're in the same boat as you.

I think that originally you had to have 25 nights booked withing your room block...not counting DVC or other resorts. I think that DVC and other resorts used to just count toward your guarantee but not your free night.

This must have changed recently because we were told the same thing. We had 25+ nights booked (a combination of the room block and DVC) and we now had earned one free night. :woohoo: If this is the case, I'll take it!

Room Block should be Brain Block! This is the MOST confusing thing we have had to do so far...and our guests are even booked yet! We hare guaranteeing 85 rooms and its making my head want to spin!

Anyway...to help answer your questions of confusion (since I had the same one and I asked it about 5 different times and ways to Pam, our coordinator)...I was told that NO MATTER what hotel your guests were booked in AS LONG AS IT WAS DISNEY OWNED AND OPERATED HOTEL (and you provided your planner with the guests reservation # or your guests provided you/your fiance's name to the cast member who they booked through) it would count towards your minimum and the 25 room nights required for the free room.

Please let me know if you have any other questions...I hope my answer wasn't more confusing LOL! HTH

Your answer is not confusing. lol...it's just different than what I was originally told. So..it would be nice to know if the policy changed...or if I just misunderstood the first time.

I actually didn't think it was all that confusing until they told me I had enough for my free rooms...but I'll take it too!

I just received our room block and I have no idea how many rooms to block off myself! Why must this be so darn confusing? :confused3

The policy changed. :thumbsup2

I LOVE lurkloo...put another dime in the jukebox baby.:rotfl2:

Just wondering, since you do not have anyone booked at yacht club or POR, can you switch those resorts for Fort wilderness, or BLT, or Saratoga so your guest can get discount at these resorts? Can you change resort during your planning process or is that not allowed?

Dawn

Since we used dvc points for all the saratoga and BLT rooms, guests already got great rates there. I did ask about switching, but our "room guy" said there was no need to switch the resort (?). So, I'm not sure if they don't recommend it...or they don't allow it...or it simply isn't necessary (not sure what rates our guests a saratoga would have got if they book right through disney. Sorry..I'm not much help on this one!

3 weeks minus 2 days!

The answer I got was that your guests can book anywhere there's availability with your room block discount. Your room block simply guarantees the number of rooms you set aside. If there are no rooms left in the hotel you blocked, they will also be offered the discount on other resorts.

We will be using DVC points for several of our guests' rooms and we were told in order to get them to count for our room block, our planner would have to manually add them to our count to make sure they were considered in the tally.

We aren't going to hit 25 nights, but I wanted to make sure we at least had 10 nights so everyone paying cash was entitled to the resort discounts. ;)
