Room Availability

I saw the rooms available at the Resort we wanted as our backup to our backup trip. I didn't pull the trigger because we already have so many deposits in and DH is getting nervous about giving Disney more money. So today I checked and the rooms I want to book aren't available. Do you think that the results change all the time and I might be able to reserve what we want? I just keep checking until something opens or do you think calling a CR might see more availability? I spent hours on the phone booking our June resort after cancelling our 'dream' trip for May, I wish I had booked the rooms earlier in the week, but trying not to beat myself up over letting my family down.

Isn't a deposit just $200 for a package and one night for a room only? My suggestion is if you see the room/dates that you want book it. I highly doubt that more availability will open up because so many people are rescheduling their trips for the Summer because of school breaks.

Also, I am sure you didn't let your family down. Your husband expressed nervousness about the giving Disney more money. So, it was a family decision. And no, a CM will only see what you are seeing.

good luck

We're doing Room Only, so one night deposit for 2 rooms and it was for a Deluxe Villa, so I would have needed an additional $1200 (or more) to reserve the dates. I'm hoping availability will change as people move around their dates.

This is not strictly true--we have gotten rooms before that were not listed online, but the CM on the phone was able to make an override (usually they need to talk to guest services to do so). Disney's algorithm does not always show all available rooms for given dates (e.g., sometimes they'll have a room category showing available for a 7 night stay, but not for a 4 night stay that is completely within the same week--they are trying to incentivize a longer booking, and/or ensure no gaps between guest stays). The algorithm varies over time so checking daily for a week or so you may see things pop back into availability.

There are also always cancellations, though those tend to be in the week running up to the 30 day mark when packages start having a cancellation penalty.

But if you do see it again, don't waver. After all, the deposit is fully refundable on room-only up to 5 days before, so there is no reason not to book.

Agree. The central reservation system seems to update more quickly than the TA and general public system. I've been able to reserve rooms by calling that I can't see online only to have those rooms then pop up on the website a few hours later. I was certainly happy to snag them before they went into the public websites! There are also room categories that can only be booked over the phone - certain suites and grand villas booked via cash.

I'm going to call and see if I can book what I saw before. I know what you mean about rooms not being available on the website, because that's another reason why I didn't book right away. I want a BW Deluxe villa as one of our rooms and it was not available 9/14-9/20, but showed up when I changed the dates to 9/13-9/20. Now it doesn't show up with any dates.

Actually, if you call in they can sometimes help you book reservations that are unavailable online. Sometimes online unavailability isn't genuine, but is due to booking algorithms that either restrict the number of nights or mandate a certain number of nights at a givne resort. If this is the case and you call in, they CM can transfer the issue to someone at Guest Services who can override the booking algorithm. This happened to me once, when I wanted a resort that was only bookable for 5-nights as individual one-night stays. I didn't want that, so I called in and they were able to create a 5-night stay for me.
