Room availability confusion

Hey guys! So my friend wants us to do a girls' trip to Disney this coming November, and I'm looking around to see availability. I've NEVER booked a (Disney) trip on this short of notice, so this is new to me. We're good with staying at a value, but here's what I'm having problems with: We are only staying for 3 nights. Well, when I put that in, it shows no availability. However, when I put in 5 nights, there are a few resorts available. My question is--if I book the 5 nights, can I then call and drop 2 of the nights? I've never had any problem adjusting DVC dates, but I didn't know if these room only reservations were their own animal. Does anyone have experience with this? I read through some threads, but couldn't find a clear-cut answer to this particular problem.

Room only is its own animal and they may not let you drop nights easily.

You can try it. It may or may not be possible. If it isn't, you can always cancel and get a refund.
